WCAPS is seeking an experienced Communications Coordinator to develop and implement strategic communications plans for the organization. The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for developing and optimizing WCAPS’ social media platforms and public communications, including drafting press materials, pitching reporters, and contributing content to the WCAPS website. This position will work in coordination with the WCAPS HQ Team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, advise, develop, and execute WCAPS strategic communications strategy, including but not limited to email marketing, social media, advocacy, and public relations.
  • Develop and manage WCAPS social media through Linkedin, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Hootsuite, and other social media outlets.
  • Manage all internal and external company communications
  • Track and analyze social media engagement
  • Make use of the wcaps.org website, hosted on Squarespace 7.1
  • Look for opportunities to generate awareness of WCAPS and support for our goals

Job Requirements

  • Education: Degree in Communications, Political Sciences, Public Information, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Job experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant (international) job experience with graduate degree (equivalent of a Master’s), 6 years with an undergraduate degree (equivalent of a BA/BS) working in media, journalism, advocacy or communications, some of which may be in related external relations contexts.
  • Attend WCAPS HQ Staff and Internship weekly meetings.
  • Very good technical affinity for media contexts including knowledge of a wide range of multimedia, web and digital tools.
  • Outstanding news-writing and editing skills.
  • Professional experience with social media platforms and corresponding tools and resources, such as Canva, Shutterstock, Adobe, Bitly, and PhotoShop.
  • Developed an understanding of the needs of the media and public audiences.
  • Responsive and timely social media posts.
  • Interest in issues of peace and security, international relations or foreign policy.
  • Thinks of and develops creative new ways to mobilize WCAPS Members for strategic impact (listservs, social media, marketing, etc,)
  • Collaborative, proactive, independent, and self-directed, yet also team-oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Maintains a culture of collaboration, transparency, learning, and empowerment, and contributes to a diverse and inclusive workspace that encourages and celebrates differences

Job Details

  • Ideal candidate has a strong background in strategic communications and/or advocacy with nonprofit organizations.
  • Salary based on experience starting from $25-28/hour

  • Part-Time, Contract
