Hanging with Logic, 24 concepts to grow your audience & the 4Ws strategy for creating an awesome student experience

Hi friends,

Yesterday, I got to hang out with two-time Grammy award-winning rapper Logic on Zoom.

Say what?

Here he is, answering the questions of Write of Passage students. Still can’t believe David Perell made this happen!

(I’m borrowing this image from my friend Cam because I totally forgot to take a screenshot.)

What I learned from this session: He’s one of us!

  • Takes a ton of notes (first in notebooks now on his iPhone)
  • Struggles with imposter syndrome
  • Creates a lot of bad drafts (his recordings-to-published ratio is 1000:1)
  • Not immune to negative comments on the internet
  • Loves to nerd out about weird interests and tiny details

This was epic!!

Now, here’s what I want to share with you this week.

24 Concepts That Will Grow Your Audience and Business

My strong recommendation: Save this short article by Josh Spector and read it once a week. These concepts (and mindsets) are crucial but so easy to forget.

Number 9 is my favorite: “Self-promotion isn’t a selfish act. It’s a generous one. If you create something that truly provides value to people, you’re helping them by telling them about it. If you hate self-promotion, it’s because you don’t believe what you created actually provides value.”

🤓 Online Courses

How to reduce logistical questions, improve participation, and encourage course completion

Monica Rysavy (Operations Director at Forte Labs and generally wonderful human being) shares her 4Ws Strategy for creating a START HERE page for your online course.

Awesome courses, communities & offers for course creators

Here are the ones you should know about this week:

🧠 Building a Second Brain: On Monday, Tiago’s launch email sequence kicks off (that I’ve been working on). Even if you aren’t interested in the course, get on it to see how we’re leading up to opening enrollments with purely educational emails focused on Tiago’s current thinking around personal knowledge management.

🎧 Dream Studio Course: The way you show up onZoom and/or in your videos influences how people perceive you. Kevin Shen helps you look professional and credible on camera with a home filming setup that creates the “Hollywood look.” Seriously, check out the before & after shots on his page. He’s running another cohort this year!

📈 Productivity

To be honest, I’m struggling to keep showing up right now.

You might have noticed that I didn’t link to any content I’ve created this week (besides tweets). That’s because I haven’t written and published anything.

First time in over a year. The projects I’m involved in have taken over 110% of my time right now (not complaining, I love what I do).

I know this is going to be temporary, and I’ll get back to creating content.

Eat poutine and be happy,
