Dear residents of Halifax, Whitingham, and Wilmington --
As your State Representative in Montpelier for the 2023-2024 biennium, it's my job to look out for your interests.
But I need your help.
I will be voting on many bills this biennium, as well as potentially sponsoring or co-sponsoring legislation. So that I can serve you to the best of my ability, I would like to learn from *you*.
What issues do you care about? What are your experiences, good or bad, with Vermont State government? Hearing your story could help me write a bill. If you are willing, giving testimony on your experience could influence on how myself and other Reps vote on it. At the very least, hearing from you as a constituent keeps me informed. Whether or not we agree, we'll know each other better.
Your expertise could give me and other legislators an insight on how to advocate for an issue. Hearing about your experiences with Vermont State government, good or bad, could given evidence or a key to solve a problem.
Timing matters. The sooner I can be aware of your story, the more opportunity we have for dialogue during the entire legislative process.
This is a time for pride. Are you a town clerk or a home health aide or a librarian or a club member and you want me to know what values you stand for? Please share.
This is also a time to not worry about pride. Maybe you or someone you know is suffering from opiate use disorder. Maybe you or someone you know is incarcerated. This is not a time when you have to have your papers in order, your s*** together.
Whatever your personal situation is, you're all my constituents and your voice matters. There are serious, life-threatening issues facing our residents today. I may not be able to help you, but if I know about you I can represent you, and witness you.
Please take two minutes now to share your thoughts. Even if they are incomplete, they are the start (or possibly the continuation) of a conversation.
***Please note the following FAQs!***
Q: Is the information I share on this form confidential?
A: I will personally consider your information confidential and will not share it without your permission. But that's not entirely up to me. Your response to this form is subject to the Vermont Public Records Act. Someone could request that these responses become public. Also, this the Internet. As a citizen I expect that anything I say on the Internet could be monitored by Google or the government, etc.
Q: I've already been in touch with you. Do I need to fill this out again?
A: Whenever I talk to a constituent in person, I recommend that they follow up via email or via this form. This will help me to be sure I have the key info I need to follow up. If you have already been in touch via email, filling out this form doesn't hurt, but you don't need to.
Q: Can I reach you by other means?
My legislative email is troberts@state.leg.vt.us. You can also reach me at 802-275-2881.
Thank you!
kind regards,
Tristan Roberts
