It’s an instinct for what looks or sounds good to a defined audience.
I always remember this quote from Ira Glass, which I’ve found to be very true in my life and work. Yes, taste is ultimately subjective, but it’s also cultivated and refined over time, through experience, and respect for excellence in a given area. Game recognizes game, so to speak.
Taste is expectation...when that expectation gets fulfilled, we call it Content
Good taste is an instinct for what is stylish, modern, clever.
