Founded in 2011, drummer Marko Cipäktli and classically trained soprano vocalist Pat Cuikani sought to fuse the pre-hispanic and rich folkloric elements of Mexican folk music with heavy metal. Drawing on instruments, melodies, mythologies, and oral histories of their ancestral Mexica (pronounced “mesh-eek-ah“) people, the band tells powerful, evocative stories that transcend language and culture. Cabrakaän have released two EPs: Songs from Anahuac (2013) and Cem Anahuac My Home (2019). Their upcoming full-length release, Aztlán, is their most ambitious release to date and will be available on streaming platforms everywhere on November 17th, 2023.
