Harris surrogate and Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo called for former President Donald Trump to be “extinguished for good” on Wednesday during an MSNBC interview, just two weeks after a second assassination attempt on the Republican presidential candidate.
Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski asked Raimondo about Trump calling himself a “protector” of women at his Pennsylvania rally in Pennsylvania this week.
“I have to ask about Donald Trump saying that he would be ‘our protector.’ He would protect us,” Brzezinski said.
The MSNBC host continued, “Some describe him to be somewhat of a sexual predator. How are we here? Number one. And number two, what is your response when you hear Donald Trump on the campaign trail saying that he, the man who brags about overturning Roe and denying lifesaving healthcare to women across America, is ‘a protector’ of women? How have we gotten here?”
Raimondo responded, “I don’t know how we have gotten here, but we sure as hell have to get out of here and get Kamala in the White House.”
“I’m a woman. I have a 20-year-old daughter. When I read that, when I saw the protector, it is enraging, it is bloodcurdling, and it is BS,” the Biden official said. “Not only is it wrong and a lie, it belittles us. We’re not that stupid. We know he’s lying. And we don’t need his baloney telling us he’ll protect us. We know the facts of how he feels about women, he is disrespectful to women, putting it mildly, and he’s the one that overturned Roe.”
Raimondo, who is the former governor of Rhode Island, explained that she had been a longtime abortion advocate and the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade was exactly what she feared would happen. She said she had led for women on the issue.
“I feared exactly what would happen and I said women of Rhode Island would be protected. That’s real protection. Stepping up and leading. And what he says is the opposite. It is just another lie,” the commerce secretary said.
Raimondo added, “How did we get here? Let’s extinguish him for good. We have an answer. We have a remarkably talented candidate who is sincere, pragmatic and open. Let’s just get it done.”
Brzezinski paused to clarify Raimondo’s remark which came after two recent assassination attempts on Trump.
“And extinguish, you mean vote him out?” the MSNBC host asked.
“Yes, absolutely. Vote him out. Banish him from American politics, yes. Just vote him out so he goes away,” she responded.
Numerous Republicans responded to Raimondo’s statements.

“‘Extinguished for good’… Democrats keep using disgusting and dangerous language like this even after TWO assassination attempts on Donald Trump. Where is the outrage?” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said on X, formerly Twitter.
“Yesterday, President Trump received a classified briefing about increased threats on his life. Today, Harris-Biden Administration Cabinet Member says he should be ‘extinguished for good.’ Why hasn’t Kamala Harris condemned this disgusting rhetoric?” Karoline Leavitt, Trump campaign national press secretary, asked.
