a year agoI seen others have had trouble understanding the pattern but I found it pretty easy to work up. Once you have the repeats set up it flows pretty quickly. I love the end results and my fur baby looks so cute in it! (I think I love it more than he does though ;) it is a great free pattern!Yes, I recommend this product.

a year agoThe pattern is difficult to understand, and I've been doing crochet for over 20 years. I'm attempting to make the largest size and it definitely fits my mixed breed who is about 55 pounds with a neck of 19 and chest of 30. I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to be doing by the row's 2-4. So I went online to find a video of this being done. There is a video by "The Crochet Crowd," and in it the person shows the pattern instructions AND THEY ARE COMPELTELY DIFFERENT. Doing the persons instructions made this pattern work, but this pattern states has you doing a chain 3, and then double crochet and single crochet, and when I did those in each stitch it came out awful. So I thought I'd try alternating 1 single in a stitch and one double in a stitch. This makes it more close to a textured pattern and that did work out fine, However the video instructions have you doing ONLY 1 chain on a turn, then single crochet in every stitch. Every even row you do there is an extra single stitch on the first and last stitches. THAT is working out beautifully. But this pattern has been rewritten to include confusing language, and double crochet's that maybe shouldn't even be there. I dunno. But when following that video it's going well. When following the written instructions there's just information that's missing. ie It says on row 3: single crochet and double crochet in parenthesis, which in any other pattern would mean that goes into a single stitch. Doing that made the whole row wonky and weird. No, I do not recommend this product.
Helpful?Quality of Product, 2.0 out of 5Value of Product, 4.0 out of 5Response from Yarnspirations:a year agoConsumer CareWe believe you are referring to the video for The Crochet Cozy Pup Dog Coat by the Crochet Crowd. It is a really nice pattern and we are glad you are enjoying it, however, as it is a different pattern you may notice some differences. The Caron Textured Crochet Dog Coat pattern uses a common textured crochet pattern often referred to as a double stitch. It works up very easily while creating a beautiful texture. You work a double crochet into the stitch and then a single crochet in the next stitch, repeating these two stitches on a setup row. For the rest of the rows, you work single crochet stitches into the double crochet stitches and double crochet stitches into the single crochet. We hope to address some of your concerns: When you ch 3 at the beginning of the row, this counts as a dc, so you do not need to then double crochet and single crochet. With regard to the parentheses in the 3rd row: 3rd row: Ch 1. (1 sc. 1 dc) in first sc (inc made). *1 sc in next dc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * ending with (1 sc. 1 dc) in top of turning ch 3 (inc made). Turn. You are correct that those stitches must be worked into the same stitch, however, this is only done once at the beginning and once at the end of the row to make two increases. For your repeat, however, you must refer to the asterisk: *1 sc in next dc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * We hope this helps, if ever you need help with any of our patterns, we would be more than happy to assist you. Please send your details to inquire@yarnspirations.com and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.Sparks, NVSkill LevelExperienced2 out of 5 stars.EASY rating is misleading and somewhat amusing
2 years agoThis coat is a sweater. This pattern is written with the assumption that you know exactly what you are doing and what the pattern writer means... Sure, "pat" means pattern, but no clarification of what the pattern is. "Even in pat" isn't explained... your guess is as good as mine, as I've never heard/seen that instruction anywhere else. You'll eventually work it out or just tear out your work and find another pattern to use. The pattern has very few explanations. It's mostly just sparse instructions with stitch counts that come waaay to late in the game. I'm pretty certain I've stitched enough while doing this pattern to have completed it at least once... Unfortunately, most of the stitching comes after tearing out sections repeatedly to get the desired (I guess?) result. I've made it half way and am rapidly losing interest in completing this project. I'm a long-time crocheter (30+ years), this has to be the most challenging "easy" pattern I've had to work... and not in a good way. I see on Ravelry that some people have completed the pattern. Kudos to those who managed to complete it. But, I can't help but notice that each completed project looks a bit different... different collar styles, different sleeves, different body shapes... and, oddly, even different stitches. Honestly, this design is very cute. It's why I chose to try it. I really wanted to make two of these for my dogs. I just wish the pattern had instructions that gave a bit more clues on what needs to be done and how to do it to be successful with the pattern. Even a simply sketch/diagram for shaping would help! No, I do not recommend this product.

2 months agoHelpful?Q: Me again. Doing the XL. I am on row 15 of the body. Doing 2 increases per row per instructions. The neck ribbing part was rectangular, but the body part fans out from the neck ribbing like a turkey tail. Is this correct?
4 months ago1 AnswerA: Yes, that is correct. After the ribbing, your Textured Crochet Dog Coat will increase in fan shape. Please feel free to email us at inquire@yarnspirations.com if you have additional questions.
4 months agoHelpful?Q: XL. For neck, do 2 rows and repeat last 82 times for total of 84 rows. Body says 86 sc across neck. Should that be 84 to match neck rows? And if 84, are the rest of the stitch counts in the pattern base in 84 or 86?
5 months ago1 AnswerA: We appreciate your interest in this pattern. The number of rows for the neckband is 84; however, when you start working on the body part, you should do 86 sc across the long edge of the neck ribbing, meaning there will be more stitches in two sc.
5 months agoHelpful?Q: Is the chest measurement the circumference or length?
6 months ago1 AnswerA: The chest measurement is the circumference.
5 months agoHelpful?Q: I do not understand directions to shape leg openings. What does it mean: Ch 3 (counts as dc), Pat across next 5(7, 11, 17) sts. In abbreviation key Pat means pattern. Does this mean I alternate account & dc? It is very unclear. Similar later in patter in
a year ago1 AnswerA: In the Textured Crochet Dog Coat working in pattern means that you will be dc in the sc stitches, and sc in the dc stitches. I hope this can get you back on track. Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions
