What you’ll need:

  • Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Costa Rica or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Costa Rica.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics or equivalent.
  • Experience: Al least 5 years of relevant professional experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Languages: Ability to read, write and speak Spanish and English.
  • Computer skills: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PorwerPoint, MS Power BI, Eviews, Stata or knowledge of at least one programming language (Gauss, Matlab, R, Python, etc.).

Core and Technical Competencies:

The following areas of experience and skills would be required:

  • Critical thinking.
  • Familiarity with data and information sources relevant to international development.
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods and policy analysis.
  • Technical writing and oral presentation ability.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, willingness to learn new skills and face unexpected challenges.

The following areas of experience and skills would be considered strong assets:

  • Knowledge and experience in the countries of The Country Department for Belize, Central America, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, and Haiti, especially Costa Rica.
  • Experience in the field of international development.
  • Work experience in the development of country (assistance) strategies, programming, evaluation and coordination of development projects and programs in a development institution.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to IDB or the work of key development institutions (IFIs, EU, regional development banks, bilateral donors).

Opportunity Summary: 

  • Type of contract: Consultant Full Time, monthly.
  • Length of contract: 12 months.
  • Location: Country Office in Costa Rica.
  • Responsible person: The consultant will be supervised by the country economist for Costa Rica and the country coordinator. Both the economist and the coordinator will contribute to the performance evaluation of the consultant and will agree on a work program. Leaves and absences must be coordinated with both supervisors as well as the Costa Rica Country Office management team.
  • Requirements: You must be a citizen of one of the IDB’s 48 member countries and have no family members currently working at the IDB Group.
