Summer golf sales and online searches soar in the UK and Europe

Demand for golf products including golf balls, bags, clubs, caps and accessories is at a record high in the UK and Europe following the easing of lockdown restrictions over the summer months, according to new sales data from Srixon.

Analysis of recent online search trends by the popular golf retailer also suggests that the number of people looking to take up golf is also at a record high as social distancing measures become part of the ‘new normal’.

Year-on-year sales of Srixon golf products increased in July by 58% in Europe and 37% in the UK.

For June, year-on-year sales rose by 34% Europe-wide and by 41% in the UK, with strong sales expected to continue for the remainder of August and into the autumn months as the sport basks in the glow of strong post-lockdown demand.

Online search traffic for key phrases related to taking up golf are also at their highest-ever levels this summer and since lockdown restrictions eased.

This includes online searches for some of the most popular search queries in Google related to taking up golf, such as; ‘golf for beginners’ (search volume at its highest ever level in June 2020), ‘how to play golf’ (at its highest level in August since 2011) and ‘golf lessons’ (at its highest level in July and August since 2006).

In line with Srixon’s sales figures, online searches for new golf products are also booming.

This includes some of the most commonly searched for phrases related to golfing products, such as for ‘golf balls’ (highest ever search volume reached this summer), ‘golf bags’ and ‘golf clubs’ (search volume for both soared to their highest levels this summer since 2008).
