The power of solar technology... ☀️💡 For the rural communities of Madagascar's southeast, energy #poverty is common place. No access to grid-electricity means no light for homes or classrooms, and no power to charge phones or other appliances... This video was taken during the opening ceremony of the 'light library' in the #rural village of Vatambe, and just look at the turnout! We estimate around 600 #community members came out to celebrate the introduction of #solar #technology to the village, showing the impact it will have to their lives, #livelihoods, #health and #environment. Until 25th April, all donations made to our BigGive campaign will be matched FOR FREE. Along with three other NGO's under our Consortium Solar United Madagascar we plan to raise £100,000, allowing us to introduce this tech to a further 63 communities... can you help us achieve it? 🧡🇲🇬👇 https://lnkd.in/eKeHdy8H

☀️🧡💡... launching Solar United Madagascar
We are delighted to launch Solar United Madagascar. We are a unique partnership of grassroots NGOs Money for Madagascar, Feedback Madagascar, SEED Madagascar and solar energy experts SolarAid and Jiro-Ve combining 70 years of experience and community connections to support a Madagascar where communities thrive and live sustainably – protected from the impacts of climate change. Madagascar is a country like no other. A land of extreme beauty: 90% of Malagasy plants and animals are not found anywhere else on the planet. And a population on the frontline of the climate change crisis: longer dry seasons, increasingly intense tropical storms, and rising temperatures. Climate change is further threatening livelihoods in a country where 79% of people already exist below the poverty line. That means they live on less than £2 per day. It is also a country in which community-led impact investment can fund the infrastructure to support higher-quality education, healthier livelihoods, and brighter futures. Follow us as we introduce our work with local communities, launching light libraries in some of the remotest regions of Madagascar. Together with the Big Give #GreenMatchFund we launch our campaign Thursday April 18th. Please help spread the word Jamie McCloskey Emma Colenbrander Carlos Sordo Mattia Vianello Mary Willcox Christine Eibs Singer Francis Wainaina John Keane Charlie Miller Koen Peters Astrid Walker Bourne

Childhood #vaccinations are essential for #safeguarding the health and well-being of children across the globe. However, only 25% of children in #Madagascar are fully vaccinated by their first birthday, leaving them vulnerable to common yet deadly childhood illnesses. Our Project Votsira team is working to change this statistic by delivering essential childhood vaccinations, such as #Polio and #Tuberculosis, to children aged 0-15 months across our hometown of Fort Dauphin. Last week, the #community of Esinda came out in full force to plant an incredible 1,362 seedlings in just three hours 🌱 From mothers to grandfathers, cousins to siblings, everyone came together to support Sekoly Maintso’s, SEED's 'Green Schools’, carbon offsetting project. What was initially a group of 40 planters turned into one of over 80, as so many wanted to get involved. The community collaborated to choose the planting site and established a dina (local law) and dina committee to manage the site. Half of the seedlings will #offset the carbon #emissions from the construction of Esinda and Beandry Primary Schools over ten years (144,187kgCO2), with the other half planted in a #sustainable resource site for the community to use once the trees are established in five years. Together, we're making a positive difference for our #environment and #communities! 🧡 #internationaldevelopment #developmentjobs #conservation #conservationjobs #environmentaljobs #ruraldevelopment #madagascar
