In this paper, we offer donors and intermediaries 3️⃣ basic principles to adopt and concrete options to consider to ensure effective and sustainable #peacebuilding. Read it here: ➡️ https://bit.ly/3uXdwsD  Together with Riva Kantowitz, PhD and Mariska van Beijnum and with the support of the Knowledge Platform Security & Rule of Law, we have brought together a group of local peacebuilders with a group of international finance experts from within and outside of the peacebuilding sector, thereby facilitating an exchange of experiences and ideas between two constituencies that normally do not meet. They helped us think about what #donors and intermediaries could change about how they distribute their financing for peacebuilding to strengthen the position of local #peacebuilders.  Why is a shift in financing for peacebuilding necessary? For peacebuilding to be more effective and sustainable, local communities need to be in control of their own peacebuilding efforts. This means that donors and intermediary funders should invest in processes that support local communities' leadership. However, because of inaccessible and/or complex #funding mechanisms, local partners often have to rely on intermediary organizations to access donor funding. To ensure effective and sustainable peacebuilding, the power balance between local partners, donors, and intermediaries needs to shift: putting local partners in the lead of program design and implementation. #philanthropy #foundations #shiftthepower #financing

🎉 We proudly present our new GPPAC Strategic Plan 2021-2025 #BuildingPeaceTogether! 🎉 💡 In our new Strategic Plan, we provide a road map for our global network on its journey to build peace, addressing three particular challenges to #peace and security. First, there is not enough support for local peacebuilding action. Second, those most affected by conflict are often not included in the design and delivery of solutions for peace; and third, climate change and other emerging threats are mitigated rather than prevented. 💙 Our Strategic Plan was developed over two years in a truly inclusive and collaborative way, involving all of our network members. 📣 We have collectively identified three themes to guide our efforts to address the challenges to peace and security: 1. We aim to magnify locally-led peacebuilding action to truly advance sustaining peace; 2. We strive to include the needs, perspectives, and expertise of local peacebuilders from diverse societal backgrounds with a specific focus on women and youth peacebuilders; 3. We intend to apply and promote a conflict-sensitive and peacebuilding approach to climate-related risks and other emerging threats. Last week, our team member and AMID alumnus Wieteke Overbeek presented the what, the why and the opportunities of #IATI to the Advanced Master in International Development (AMID) students of 2019.
