Critics Consensus

Jennifer's Body features occasionally clever dialogue, but its horror/comedy premise ultimately fails to be consistently funny or scary enough to satisfy.

Kjerstin Johnson Bitch Media It's not just a feminist thumbs down, it's like a... movie thumbs down. (Substack) There’s so much righteous anger in this movie, not just about the way girls are treated and about bodily autonomy, but also about the recession and America’s weird post-9/11 jingoist patriotism. Feb 13, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review For a horror comedy, Jennifer’s Body is conspicuously unfunny and unscary. Rated: 1/4 Aug 30, 2023 Full Review Stephanie Archer Film Inquiry While not all elements of the film fail to come together as cohesively as others, Jennifer’s Body proves itself to be one wild, satirically horrific experience. Natalie F I absolutely! I loved this movie. It disappointed me that people didn't understand the story or anything due to bad marketing, but this movie spoke to a lot of things. it didn't deserve the hate it has got. such an iconic movie to have with us today!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review Audience Member I personally love Jennifer’s Body. This movie is one of my favorites! I have seen it a million times and it’s great every time! It was funny and eerie. When I watched it for the first time I was constantly surprised. I love costume design. I feel like it’s a great twist on your class 2010’s (even though this came out in 2009) coming of age film. It’s just enough of raunchy. I love the soundtrack of this film! I felt like Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox’s portrayal of a toxic friendship while one being a demon and the other human was so well done in my opinion. This movie had a lot of deeper meanings for the plot which made the movie all the more interesting to watch. I love themes of sexuality, power and control, etc. Totally recommend this film!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/02/25 Full Review Max H The 3rd time I’ve seen Jennifers body. This movie is incredibly underrated. It has a great sound track and the ending is sad enough to be emotional be not to sad that it’s isn’t kick ass. This has some good character development, I like Amanda Seyfried’s role in this, I really thinks she brings that kick ass final girl behavior. If you haven’t watched Jennifer’s body yet then I highly recommend it and excited that the sequel is in the works Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/29/25 Full Review Claudia C Horror and comedy are just the backdrop for the actual story: Jennifer and Needy were just incompatible people in a codependent relationship that was bound to fail, it just did in the most unimaginable way. I think most women can relate to having a friendship just like Jennifer and Needy's besides the gory parts, and that eye-opening moment makes it a movie worth a watch. It's also a metaphor for SA trauma and its correlation with hypersexuality, which sadly are very pervasive in the lives of average women. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/28/25 Full Review Saniy B Jennifer's Body is definitely an iconic cult film. This film is mixed with horror, and comedy. This movie is definitely more than just a horror film. In this film the audience is following the main character Jennifer Check. She definitely well-known in high school, and become possessed. This happens a rock band basically scarifies her. From there on she is literally feeding on boys throughout her town. This to me is so strange but funny at the same on how ironic it is. It to me shows some themes of femininity. This movie is focused on the female reltionships in my opinion. The actors were great, the production and all. I definitely believe this is a movie people should watch once in their life.
