JOB SUMMARY 

The Senior Director, Clinical Family Planning & Reproductive Health should be passionate about expanding access to family planning and reproductive health to all people globally. They should be committed to ensuring that every client that accesses information or a service through an EngenderHealth supported intervention receives the highest quality of care, and that all our programs are delivered with technical distinction and with the potential of scale and sustainability. The Senior Director, Clinical FP & RH is a strategic leader and implementer with significant experience working in SRHR and a demonstrated track record in designing and implementing family planning and reproductive health programs.  

Role Summary: The Senior Director, Clinical FP & RH leads the EngenderHeath family planning (FP) and reproductive health (RH) portfolio that spans over multiple countries, covering contraception, comprehensive abortion care, cervical cancer, and maternal health. The position’s primary focus will be to provide technical expertise in the development of technical approaches to increase access to high-quality FP/RH services for all people of reproductive age—including adolescents, young parents, and underserved or marginalized populations—as well as their implementation across project interventions in fragile settings. They will set the direction for the delivery of FP/RH and are accountable for development and implementation of EngenderHealth’s strategy for high-quality client centered-care. They will also lead the organization’s approach to clinical governance and quality assurance across the health systems in which EngenderHealth operates. This role also serves as a senior representative of EngenderHealth externally, attending WHO and other technical working groups. The Director will report to the Managing Director, Technical Leadership. 
 
Key Job Outcomes:  
 
Strategic and Technical Leadership on FP/RH: Lead the enhancement and embedding of EngenderHealth’s global approach to FP/RH, including guidance and dissemination of state-of-the-art clinical and FP/RH standards, tools, and guidance. Monitor global trends and FP/RH advancements, and suggest areas where EngenderHealth can embrace, embed and innovate new approaches for delivering high quality RH/FP and delivering client-centered care. Serve as a global strategic leader for EngenderHealth’s clinical RH/FP programming, creating new partnerships in this area and liaising with key donors and development partners. Facilitate exchange of best practices across EngenderHealth projects and country teams, as well as with the global SRHR community. Guide projects and departments in state-of-the-art approaches and application of FP High Impact Practices.  
 
Clinical Quality and Management: Mentor and manage the global clinical team, based in Africa and Asia, and covering all core program areas: contraception, comprehensive abortion care, cervical cancer, maternal health, and HIV/AIDS. Set a vision and mentor and motivate the team to deliver high quality technical guidance, support and thought leadership. Design EngenderHealth’s global approach to clinical governance and accountability, including roll-out of a global quality approach, including standards, tools, guidance, process and global package of quality assurance. Ensure organizational clinical quality assurance for project implementation, provision of effective technical assistance and team mentoring. Ensure that our programs and partners receive high-quality technical support that enables them to design excellent programs that deliver safe clinical outcomes in line with our standards for client-centered care.  
 
Resource Mobilization: Serve as a Technical Lead in proposal development for strategic FP/RH bids, including conducting background research, facilitating design sessions, determining partnership strategy, and drafting and writing the technical approach. Provide technical guidance and support to country teams to ensure effective design, implementation, and monitoring of FP/RH interventions. Engage with current and prospective donors, partners, and collaborators to advance business development priorities. 
 
Thought Leadership: Be a thought-leader and represent EngenderHealth externally including at global forums; attending technical meetings and consultations; provide direction to EngenderHealth’s presence and abstract submission to specific conferences. Support and develop the expertise and capacity of country program technical staff for global representation. The Senior Director will write and contribute to technical briefs, conference abstracts, reviewing presentations and supporting internal and external dissemination activities – ensuring utilization of state-of-the-art information and promising FP/RH practices. They will also support the development of clinical quality assurance packages, training and guidance.  
 
Collaboration: Work closely with departments and teams across EngenderHealth, including Gender; Adolescent and Youth; Business Development; Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning; and Country Programs. Identify opportunities to integrate programs outside the health sector (e.g., education, climate, nutrition, etc.) ensuring that every opportunity to provide FP/RH information and clinical services is maximized. 
  
REQUIREMENTS 
 
Must possess the following requirements with or without a reasonable accommodation: 
  • Master’s Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field (e.g., MPH, MSC) is advantageous. 
  • Clinical degree (medical doctor, nursing, midwifery) is required.  
  • 10+ years’ experience leading or overseeing FP/RH programs in international health programming.  
  • 10+ years’ experience in senior-level clinical/technical positions and experience designing, implementing, FP/RH programs and services. 
  • Significant experience designing FP/RH programs as part of proposal development processes, including proposal writing experience. 
  • Significant experience designing and leading FP/RH strategies for client-centered care.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience implementing USAID-funded FP/RH programs; Significant experience working across complex projects.  
  • Significant experience contributing to or serving as technical lead for USAID funded projects and other donors, including managing donor deliverables and expectations. 
  • French fluency ideal 
  • Experience providing support to MoH across the health system in multiple geographies desirable.  
  • Experience working in matrixed organizations desirable.
