The Molly (Poecilia sphenops) is a small freshwater fish, native to Mexico, in the Poeciliidae family.
The Molly is silver, but has been selectively bred to include colours such as black, orange, white, golden, and Dalmatian (silver with black speckles). It has also been selectively bred to include different shapes, especially different shaped tails. These include the Short-Fnned Molly (Common Molly) and the Lyretail Molly. It has large, white, round eyes with black pupils.
It grows to about 8-12 centimetres (3-5 inches) long.
The Molly is native to freshwater and marine saltwaters of Mexico. It only spends a little time in saltwater before swimming back to its freshwater habitat.
