The Prosecutor General’s Office has opened a pre-trial investigation into the violation of international sanctions, following the LRT Investigation Team’s publication, which revealed that a company owned by the Vičiūnai Group has transported sanctioned dual-use goods to Russia.
The investigation is being organised and monitored by the Criminal Prosecution Division of the Klaipėda Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed to BNS that a pre-trial investigation has been opened in relation to the exports of the company Plungės Kooperatinė Prekyba, owned by the Vičiūnai Group.
The Vičiūnai Group is co-owned by Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis and his business partner Liudas Skierius.
On Tuesday, the LRT Investigation Team revealed that Plungės Kooperatinė Prekyba transported sanctioned goods to Sovetsk. According to the investigation, goods classified as battlefield items and put on the EU’s sanctions list were transported from Lithuania to Kaliningrad at least 11 times.
Vičiūnai Group admits it was shipping goods needed to maintain its factory in Kaliningrad, but claims it was not aware the items were sanctioned.
