Tofu Cowboy: A Steamy Small Town Romantic Comedy (Big Sky Cowboys Book 1) Kindle Edition
She’s a nude model, and her meaty vegetarian cowboy wants a private session.
Tall, blond, rugged Luke Morgan knows how to handle a herd. He’s everything a cowboy should be - but he still feels like the blond sheep in his family because he’s also a soulful artist with a penchant for veggie lasagna.
Twenty-five year old, blue-haired, buxom, beautician Maddie Richards just moved to Conway, Montana. She’s new to small town life, the gossip and the intimacy. Being open and letting people in isn’t what Maddie does best. On a body positive journey, she’s inspired to model nude for a local drawing class.
From the first minute he sees her, up on the podium, modeling, Luke can’t take his eyes off Maddie. Their attraction is magnetic, but Maddie has a secret that could ruin everything.
This sexy, smart, rip roaring good time gallops with tease and titillation and introduces readers to the entire Morgan tribe, a tight knit family of ripped and rowdy ranchers. When the Morgan’s get together, shenanigans abound. If this is your first foray into the Big Sky Boys Series...well, howdy and welcome to the family!

Review by L. Starla
The story was different and cool
Luke, a cowboy who takes drawing classes, meets Maddie, a life model.
During this relationship, issues arise that threaten their happiness.
So well written and thought out, this book was just wonderful. There was lots of steam and also tense moments towards the end. But the ending just took my heart away, it was so moving. Highly recommended!!
This was an ARC through Hidden Gems and this is my honest review.
This was a fun, quick read about finding love and how sometimes life isn’t easy. Both Luke and Maddie have issues with their identity, either because of other people or because they think they don’t fit into a particular mold. I loved that Luke was eventually so open with his family about how he felt and even though they joked with him, they understood where he was coming from.
Maddie’s story was sad, but she we see her become a strong and confident woman by the end of the story, with the help of her boss and Luke. I also loved that she was quirky and the scenes between her and Luke with at times hilarious and definitely sexy. Overall, a cute read!
Note: there may be triggers from some readers.
If you like flirty, witty and drop dead gorgeous main characters on a journey of self love and growth - along with a little heat - then you’re going to love ‘Tofu Cowboy’.
The connection between Luke & Maddie sizzles off the pages, making this a “habanero hot” feel-good read, suitable for young adult readers and up.
5 stars all the way!!
I received a free ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
It was playful, fun, heartwarming and poignant. The characters were warm hearted, good natured and a little quirky. There was a sense of family, and honesty, and a little bit of wonderment. I completely felt for these two, empathy making my chest tight, and my head giddy with theirs. I felt pride for them. Maddie, doing what she needed for her own happiness and wellbeing, even when she faltered, she worked back from it. Luke put himself out there for his dreams, and was compassionate, supportive and straightforward. Dude was perfect. And both of them were a lot of fun.
I think this book might just go into my faves folder.

It starts off goofy, and I promise that doesn't go away (Tarzan yell, Oregon Trail jokes, good ol' fashioned family teasing), but this book quickly evolves into something far more emotional and poignant. Not only does the setting ring true, the Morgan family is a hoot and I'm already itching for the next books in this series.
Beyond that, the interactions between Luke and Maddie when she finally reveals her deep wound are so real, so visceral, you'll need a box of tissues for sure. But they're not just emotional for emotions sake, which is why this book got 5-stars. They're emotions that are rooted in character wounds, and handled in such a way that felt so real I could imagine myself having the same conflict and handling it the same way.
Maddie and Luke are the most adorable, awkward, funny characters ever and they feel SO REAL! Tarzan roars, cookies, honesty and real-life apologies make them jump off the page and I swear I would be best friends with the pair of them. (I would say Luke is my book boyfriend, but I'm slightly terrified of Maddie. She could take me out no problem!) One of the things I love most is that while there's an instant spark between this couple, they still dated and took things slow-ish and let themselves fall into love. It felt like a real relationship, one that I was so lucky to watch evolve, and their hurts & hangups were just as real because of this. Also, can we talk about the subtle diversity represented here? A cowboy who doesn't eat cows, a woman with blue hair, a small town that embraces both of them in that judgy-acceptance way that small towns just have. I mean, it's not overt but it's there and I loved it. Proof that diversity in a book doesn't have to be preachy.
*Spoilers*
There is a trigger warning for infertility (and one for eating disorders/emotional abuse that happened prior to the book), which is something you'll need to decide if you can handle or not.
I will say that two years ago my husband and I were told we have a zero percent chance of having biological children, even with fertility treatments, so it is a big trigger for me. But this book dealt with it in such a way that I felt supported and respected rather than triggered. That might be the same for you, or it might not.
I will also tell you there is not magical super-sperm solution at the end of this book. Which I personally appreciated because while miracle babies sometimes happen, they also don't happen. And I love that this book has a very Happily Ever After ending without the addition of a miracle pregnancy.

I'm not a huge fan of insta-love but in a book this short it is almost unavoidable. I thought the author's approach in this regard worked well. I loved that the characters took the time to get to know each other before falling into bed. That private modelling session was inspired
I did find that the story flow could have used some work, there was a lot of jumping around from scene to scene and it felt a little disjointed, not enough to severely impact my enjoyment but enough that it was noticable. A bit more of the seeing them fall in love over telling that they were falling in love would have been great.
While we got a lot of background on Luke, Maddie was more of a mystery, which I think was by design. In general it worked but did leave you wondering and I really would have liked to have known is just why/how she found herself in this small town.
I thought the subject of Maddie's secret was a little heavy and while I'm glad the author didn't magically fix things I would have liked to have seen it given the weight it deserved by the couple together (ie a real and serious discussion) before the marriage proposal, which was well-played. I really liked it.
All in all it was a sweet story and I would happily read more by the author.

Lola West is a smart, sassy, strong female who writes about smart, sassy, strong females. She isn’t afraid to have her characters be flawed and vulnerable. She has a talent for writing short stories that are complete arcs and can make you laugh, cry, and sigh all within the same chapter.
“Luke made me his muse, and there was this giant bravery required to embody that role, and it felt sexy and brazen and bold.”
I am reading this book after reading the third and fourth books in this series. But oh my God. There are so many things to discuss regarding this book and Lola West.
First, thank you, Lola West. Thank you so much for this book. Thank you for giving us, Maddie. Her journey, her struggles, her healing. Her story. The way you write this character; the way you wrote her journey is lovely. Not only is Maddie a recovered anorexic/bulimic, but she comes from a broken and emotionally abusive home. Maddie decides to pursue a healthy relationship with herself, so she signs up to model for an art class. What better way to embrace oneself than modeling nude in front of a classroom or artists? And then get to see yourself through their lens. That is owning one's power. Because of the harm caused by her eating disorder, Maddie has a secret. Something that she thinks makes her less. Something that means she is broken. She doesn’t think she deserves to be loved and cherished. She doesn’t think she is worthy of happily ever after. She wants to be happy, internally, deep from within, happy.
Luke is blown away from the first time he sees the blue-haired beauty in his art class. She awakens something within him that he wasn’t sure existed. She makes him want more. She makes him smile. She brings out the best in him, as a man and as an artist.
He makes her feel beautiful. And he loves her wholly. Because Maddie is whole. Maddie is not broken. Maddie is not damaged. And Maddie deserves cookies and pillow first for the rest of her life.
This book is an absolute must-read. This book is perfect. It’s beautiful. It’s complicated. It’s deep. It’s honest. It’s raw. It’s real. And Maddie is worth so much more. She is not less than.
Lola West, I sobbed through the last half of this book. The way you handled Maddie’s secret and the adamant, unconditional love you show her is truly beautiful.
