Job Description

At Unreasonable, we believe entrepreneurs building rapidly scalable businesses are our best bet for solving the most significant social and environmental challenges of our time. Every day, our team strives to give the entrepreneurs we work with an unfair advantage. We do this by connecting entrepreneurs with the networks of mentors, investors, business leaders, and policy makers they need to scale their businesses. Today, the over 200 CEO’s in the Unreasonable Fellowship have raised more than $4.5B in financing, generated more than $3.5B in revenue, and are measurably impacting the lives of more than 530 million individuals in nearly every country and territory worldwide.

We are now searching for an Investment Associate to join the Unreasonable Collective Deal Team. Unreasonable Collective is Unreasonable’s Group’s co-investment platform that employs a pledge fund model to invest in companies that are creating innovative solutions to the world’s greatest challenges. As a member of the Unreasonable Collective Deal Team, you will be focused on early to growth stage investments (Series A and B).

The Investment Associate will play a key role in all parts of the deal execution process, including: sourcing and evaluating prospective opportunities, conducting industry research, writing investment memos, securing financing, and supporting post-close operational initiatives. This individual will also work collaboratively with management teams at portfolio companies to build value on behalf of the broader Unreasonable network. This hire should be comfortable working directly with the Head of Investment at Unreasonable and with C-Suite executives at portfolio companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Thesis building and deal sourcing

    • Study markets and identify new trends that can lead to high-impact investments.

    • Market mapping for high focus investment areas within climate tech and future of work.

    • Meet founders and key stakeholders in relevant industries to build an in-depth understanding of their business models and market dynamics.

    • Network with other investment firms and accelerators to help build Unreasonable’s sourcing pipeline.

    • Establish Collective as a public thought leader through relationship-building, curated social media posts, and broader communication efforts

  • Due diligence and deal execution

    • Lead the due diligence for investment opportunities. This includes market research, company-specific data analysis, customer interviews, financial modeling and valuation analysis.

    • Create and present investment memos, Q&A packets, and other relevant diligence materials to the Unreasonable Collective LP base.

    • Liaise with third-party subject-matter experts inc. technical consultants and industry professionals to further thesis and diligence materials for LP base.

    • Serve as a key point of contact for Collective LPs to support their diligence requests of investment opportunities.

  • Portfolio support

    • Build strong relationships with founders and become their thought partner for deal participation.

    • Monitor portfolio company metrics and industry dynamics.

    • Actively consider and connect LPs to deal opportunities

    • Tracking PortCo strategic priorities/key needs and acting as a bridge to potential support systems

  • Platform building and execution

    • Manage end-to-end deal syndicate process for Collective members. This includes facilitation of capital raising, deal execution, and legal processes.

    • Host monthly Collective membership programs, including brain trusts, venture showcases, and masterclasses alongside Collective’s Investment Manager.

    • Spearhead development of processes and systems for Collective deals.

    • Support efforts for new investment vehicles including rolling funds, hybrid funds, Collective alpha, and traditional venture capital platforms

  • Fundraising

    • Work with LP base to evaluate interest in an opportunity ahead of showcasing deals to broader community (inc. early conversations, socializing with Anchors, etc.)

    • Source capital for investment opportunities from our LP base and from external investors that are well-suited for deals (ie. prospects, mentors, etc.)

    • Work with Diligence Lead to support diligence questions related to investment opportunities and liaise with LPs as needed (phone calls, emails, etc)

    • Develop and execute targeted communications efforts segmented by Member type and interest in deal/industry of focus

Who We’re Looking For:

  • You are someone who is truly passionate about supporting entrepreneurs who are applying wildly scalable business solutions to solving the world’s greatest challenges.

  • You see entrepreneurship as a driver of economic growth and an agent of global social and environmental change.

  • You have strong analytical skills for modeling data and processing information

  • You are comfortable with valuation modeling and venture due diligence

  • You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills along with strong presentation skills

  • Proven track record of performing commercial and operational due diligence in a venture or general deal environment

  • Prior venture capital, investment banking, or management consulting experience is nice but is not required

  • You love creating systems and implementing them across work streams.

  • You are extremely detail-oriented, especially when it comes to managing extensive data and information sets.

  • You work best on a fast-moving team that is collaborative, and when needed, you are also able to take full ownership of a project from start to finish without direct management or supervision.

  • When given clear direction, you are always a top performer on any task. If you haven’t done it before, you teach yourself rather than get deterred by the ambiguity.

  • You love research and take pride in deriving insights from arduous amounts of data

  • You think and operate strategically. You recognize what’s most important to tackle, in what order, and are prepared to make informed, independent decisions.

  • You approach problem-solving with an open mind and are willing to take a leadership position with your peers to ensure best practices become standard.

  • You believe deeply in the importance of transparent and honest communication in what you write and how you interact with your team.

  • You always follow up and follow through.

  • As you read about Unreasonable’s core values, you get more and more excited with each value you come across.
