The myth of 'perfect activism' divides us, and prevents folks on the outside from joining in. Moreover, it's a distraction from the systemic solutions needed. Yes, people should recycle; but if we’re not lobbying politicians to regulate the companies flooding us with plastic, then we’re ignoring the impending tsunami to fix a leaky tap. We don't need 100 perfect activists, but millions of imperfect ones. People working together for social, political and environmental change. This is Part 2 of my speech from ChangeNOW. You can find the first half on my profile. ~ With thanks to my sister and editor Hayley, who is the best bouncing board a writer could hope for. To the Force of Nature team for building our global community of activists. And to the ChangeNOW team for making this event possible: Kevin Tayebaly, Santiago Lefebvre, Garance Aulagne, Jimena Morales-Velasco, Jonathan Jennings and many other superstars 🌟 . . . . . . #climatecrisis #climateaction #greenwashing #business #activism #power #speaker #technology #change #leadership #culture #ecoanxiety #catalystmoment

Well stated! You are very aware of the divide-and-conquer mindset that these "systems" have become adept in using for control over many centuries. Thank you for focusing on this. Next step is embracing the togetherness you speak of that we so dearly need. How do you get across the point that I am you and you are me, and we are only as strong as each other? How do you accept that while embracing our unique individuality that both drives us together and pushes us apart? There are so many questions like these that are beyond our senses, yet very much in each and every breath. I'll just close on a clearer note by saying thank you also for saying that making individual choices is still okay and that it helps us as individuals feel good about how we are living. This is important for us to trust ourselves and get clear within ourselves so we can honestly come together to make real and lasting change. Keep it up! You're helping.

Really a great speech! Let's leave perfection to the films and books, not being a "perfect" environmentalist is not a reason not to have the right of demanding systemic change. Sure people can take some personal actions, but how much easier is that when you have the right incentives and the system pushing you to? When heat pumps and solar panels are the cheapest choices for your house is easy to make the right call, when they are not and there's still a "green premium" it is privilege of a few that can afford.

Rightly so I felt a little uncomfortable as a 60+ white male sitting and listening to parts of your fantastic speech; having said that I strive more and more everyday to not be ‘one of those’ and attending ChangeNOW France and listening to you and so many of the other amazing speeches was so inspiring. Being around so many other people that are tackling the problems we (well that’s a ‘we’ in the global north) have created with joy and enthusiasm is so inspiring. Thank you.

The power of words. Clover, you managed yet again to express clearly and simply how bold we all still need to be and take it to the next level. A message to spread. Thank you so much for your courage and your actions in this world. An imperfect activist.

Well said, and too much of the so-called ‘ani-woke’ media focuses on a lack of perfection rather than the primary issues. A great distraction tactic. Rather than celebrating perfection we should instead celebrate honest effort and real progress.
