The adult grows to 48-64 centimetres (19-25 inches) long.

The Azara’s Agouti lives in pairs or small family groups. It mates for life. The female has 1-4 young, after a pregnancy of 104-120 days.

From birth, the juvenile looks similar to its parents. The parents take care of their young and are good parents. The juvenile becomes independent after about 5 months.

The photographed Azara Agouti is two weeks old. It was born on 28 May 2021.
