Why regulating your nervous system matters

(gentle music) - You and I and every human have something in common. We have a nervous system. And this nervous system influences not only our behaviors, but also the stories we have about ourselves, each other, and the world. And if you don't understand the basics of how your nervous system works, it will get the best of you, especially in stressful situations. I'm Jay fields. I'm a coach, educator, and author, and I'm excited to share some basic concepts about your nervous system and take you through a series of activities and practices so you can learn to regulate yourself when you're overwhelmed. I wish I could tell you that after you've watched this course, the world will be safer and less stressful and the challenges you face will go away. I can't do that. But what I can tell you is this. If you apply what you learn in this course, you'll experience more of the safety and harmony that does exist in the world. And you'll have more control over how you show up to take on the challenges you face. This is the power of regulating at the level of your nervous system.
