Young People - Radical Trekking - Ayelet Baron

What Are Young People Choosing in 2022 and Beyond?

They are choosing the freedom to navigate life; there’s no interest in setting annual goals with an employer and checking in with a supervisor who tells them how they are progressing.

There’s no need to balance work and life as many young people are becoming aware that there’s only one life to live, where work is part of it, and they are choosing to be lifeaholics on their own terms, and not workaholics. Play, experimenting and challenging themselves are at the heart of their mission.

Having a degree from a coveted school is also no longer a requirement for anyone who chooses to start a business and focus on what they would love to create in the world, which also sustains them.

The choice many young people are facing is to work for oneself and grow at your own pace. Mentors no longer have to be within your organization as anyone who knows how to ask for help can connect directly with anyone.

There is an increasing number of people who no longer fit the traditional job markets. There is no need to depend on someone else to provide income, a raise, benefits or flexibility with how to live life.

Paid time off (PTO) for many is not necessary as there’s a choice of how much you need to earn and how much you can afford to play.

While some may miss the interaction of colleagues and teams, many don’t want to have a boss that causes them stress or burnout. And many are choosing co-living in locations that are calling them.

Over the past few decades, we have experienced severe management crises and this generation is saying, enough. The perks no longer outweigh the desire for the choice and discernment when it comes to having a balanced, fulfilling life, which includes a career.
