Say hello to "Bud", the AI Terminator in the world of weeds. Imagine a Terminator that targets weeds rather than future leaders? Sound surreal? That's what Carbon Robotics is bringing to life! In 2020, the herbicide industry was worth an overwhelming $33.65 billion, underscoring our deep-rooted dependence on chemicals for weed management. This way of doing things has some problems, like harm to the environment and a lot of money for farmers. This is where Bud steps in, a self-operating, laser-equipped robot rolled out by Carbon Robotics. Utilizing the capabilities of AI, Bud spots unwanted plants in crops and uses a powerful laser to eradicate them. This method is a viable alternative to traditional chemical herbicides. The advantages of Bud are aplenty. It promotes improved crop yield and quality while ensuring that the soil microbiology remains unchanged. It helps lower the overall expenses for farmers by automating weed management and curtailing the use of chemicals. More so, Bud stimulates regenerative farming methods, enhancing soil health.  The cherry on top?  Bud opens the door to a cost-effective transition to organic farming, a sector that is frequently hindered by ineffective weed management. I was honored to participate in the BASF Research press conference. This important event, hosted by Nina Schwab-Hautzinger and key noted by Melanie Maas-Brunner, BASF Group CTO, showcased major examples of innovation across BASF Group's businesses. All five technologies presented, Dag Wiebelhaus (#B2Last), Sebastian Hartwig (#Sharkskin), Torsten Clarius (#Priobiolift) and Heiko Urtel (#BatteryMaterials), re-affirm BASF's commitment to meeting customers' needs, while addressing many of the challenges facing the world, from climate change to limited natural resources, increasing pressure on ecosystems and the growing global population. Representing xarvio® Digital Farming Solutions and BASF Agricultural Solutions, I had the privilege of highlighting the value and importance of ONE SMART SPRAY, a Joint Venture of Bosch and BASF in the necessary transformation of Agriculture. 🌱 Advancing Regenerative Ag: Corteva (CTVA) Leads in Crop Tech Key takeaway: Adopting regenerative agriculture methods can lead to sustained ecological and economic benefits for farmers, and broadly, the food and beverage (F&B) industry. A growing swath of consumers is slowly warming to the notion that paying a premium for such eco-friendly products is acceptable if the premium justifies the long-term personal and ecological health benefits. F&B companies have set ambitious targets to increase procurement of ingredients produced through such methods to meet this at-the-margin growing demand. The long-term benefits for farmers include higher productivity and increased revenue opportunities due to soil and water source health that will result in increased demand per unit volume production. To satisfy this demand shift, farmers will require crop-input enhancement, invasive pest and species control and energy and irrigation conservation and technology solutions that can ease the initial costrelated burdens required for this transition. We emphasize use of the word “transition” rather than “transformation” because we believe all these technology, infrastructure and methodology solutions are within the distributive grasp of the global agricultural industry. As a result, agriculture technology companies such as Corteva (CTVA), Yara (YARIY), and Bioceres Crop Solutions (BIOX) that are on the ecological cusp of these demand-driven transitional solutions stand to benefit from the growing adoption of a necessary global regenerative agricultural transition.
