What makes copywriting the most profitable skill in business?

Hi friends, 

Two earth-shattering things happened last week … one literally, one figuratively. 

  1. For the first time, I experienced an earthquake last Friday in Port Moresby. It does feel scary when everything starts to shake, and doors and windows rattle. Luckily, no one got hurt. And I finally know what to do in case another one strikes because that’s what I looked up right after it was over (you’re not supposed to run outside, but hide under something). 
  1. The Write of Passage course is halfway done, and people are getting tired of hearing me rave about it. Thanks to the positive energy, encouragement, and feedback from my incredibly smart and generous fellow students, I’ve gotten more done in my business in 3 weeks than in the whole last year. My website got a complete makeover, three articles are live, and the newsletter is out. Will keep this momentum going.

My obvious choice was copywriting and the fact that it’s a secret weapon in business. I unpacked it by explaining what copywriting is, why you need it, when and where to use it, who should be working on it, and how to get started.

Your Actionable Copywriting Tip 

Copywriting is not a workout! You don’t need the warm-up. 

Warm-up copy is starting a website with “welcome to our website” (yep, people still do that) or an email with telling the reader what you’ll tell them in the email. It strains your audience’s fragile attention span. Cut the warm-up and get straight to your point.   


Tool of the Week: Google Voice Typing

Did you know that Google Docs and Slides have in-built voice recognition? That blew my mind. You can find it under Tools –> Voice typing. Or activate it with Command+Shift+S. Perfect for when you want to think your next article or presentation out loud, or just feel lazy.
