About Us

In a context of climate breakdown and technological disruption, Dark Matter Labs focuses on institutional innovation to accelerate societal transitions towards an inclusive and democratic low-carbon future. Our daily work ranges from policy and regulation to finance and data, from governance and democratic participation to organisational culture and identity.

We organise our work around what this transition needs, and the things we want to see in the world. To keep that transparent, we undertake open work in collaborative partnerships to provoke alternative visions of the future, designing how they might look in practice, and experimenting in context to reveal how they could work and enable the necessary change. More about us here.

About This Role

Building on several years of cross-European collaborations, Dark Matter Labs is well positioned to contribute to the critical global challenge of accelerating just transitions to a climate-neutral urban future. We have written about this work here as well as elsewhere on our blog, and are about to commence a multi-year consortium programme which sits at the centre of Europe's climate mission.

We are looking for a programme lead who can work with our growing team on making this mission a success. This is is a pivotal leadership role and we are looking for an experienced person who can help drive this complex field of work with passion, deep integrity, creativity and drive. The successful candidate would be brilliant in

  1. the transdisciplinary conceptual side of this work and its human aspects;
  2. building excellent relationships both across DM's several fields of expertise and externally with consortium partners, cities, funders and communities of innovators;
  3. navigating complex consortia and programme dynamics in a creative and agile manner, in a way that creates space for our work to flourish while meeting the deliverables and requirements in place.

We expect that the balance between these areas will regularly shift and rebalance, with an overall split as summarised above. The work has a strong focus on practical execution across several work strands (40%) but also requires a significant programme orchestration component, compiling of strategy, convening and facilitation work (within and across work packages), and coordination with consortium partners to achieve the high programme ambitions (60%).
