"Break The Silence" Campaign against Women Violence

Street Art
Let your eyes be cast on the mountain tops | ولتكن عيناك على رؤوس الجبال موجهة
In 2019 the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Jordan and the online art magazine, Artmejo, put out an open call for artists to commemorate 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. The winning work was submitted by myself and Dalal Mitwally, which we then transformed into this mural located in downtown Amman, Jordan.
The line of poetry translates to: Let Your Eyes Be Cast On The Mountain Tops
The poem written by Seba Al Abbadi decorates the surroundings of the woman in the mural.
This competition was launched in the midst of nationwide protests in response to the news of a brutal act of domestic violence in the northern part of the country. We attempted to show a woman in a state of strength and security casting her eyes inwards towards her own mountain tops that never cease to disappear, resembling the fortitude every woman has.
A 7-day long creation process in extremely cold weather conditions. There was an apparent parallel between the message and the woman that was drawn and between us as artists painting the mural. As this mural about an empowered woman was being painted it was being painted by two young females that are hanging on a platform mid-air at an extreme height.

It was a shock to most of the passersby since we were in a male dominated area of the city, It was not a common scene to have females doing any kind of labor work nevertheless painting a mural!
