The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 500 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

Position

The ECF’s Strategic Communications Team is the outreach unit of the Foundation. The team acts as a centre of expertise on climate communications and seeks to help create more political, media and public endorsement for action on climate change at an international level. The team delivers strategic advice, communications and outreach services to ECF programmes and grantees and helps build strategic communications capacity in the wider climate community.
The ECF’s Strategic Communications Team is currently accepting applications for an enthusiastic and highly driven individual to join its team as Strategic Communications Intern and gain professional experience in strategic climate communications.
This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate/career starter with a sincere interest in climate and energy issues and the ambition to make a difference, to play an active role in helping speed up the low carbon transition and avoid the worst impacts of global climate change.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working with the International Strategic Communications team to support the communications- and media needs of the ECF and the wider climate community;

  • Monitoring the news agenda and public debates, especially around the UN Conference of Parties (COP 26);

  • Assisting the International Strategic Communications team in its internal and external outreach;

  • Maintenance of in-house media lists and our knowledge database;

  • Supporting the team with its COP26 work i.e. attending calls with key partners, preparing presentations and media packages;

  • Working closely with the Digital branch of the team to produce social media content including short blogposts, posts and basic visual assets;

  • Other ad hoc outreach, research and administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • A genuine interest in the mission and values of the ECF;

  • Fast-learning self-starter comfortable to work in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work across time zones, phone/video conferencing, etc.;

  • The ability to think analytically and research effectively;

  • Up to speed with online communication tools and social media;

  • Basic knowledge of key climate diplomacy issues;

  • Deep interest in global climate media;

  • Enthusiasm to help frame public and media debates around the issue of climate change;

  • Fluency in English;

  • Flexible, with the ability to work independently and in a team;

  • Appreciation of the vital role of administrative tasks;

  • The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers.

  • The drive to be self-directed and work nimbly in the face of a lot of phone/video conferencing, time zone issues, Slack, email, etc.

  • A genuine commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.

Location
The job is Berlin based. The successful candidate will be able to use the Berlin office.
We will not provide support for relocation. You must have the right to work in Germany.
