This morning I was stuck on a problem, and I asked myself a question Laura Roeder taught me a few weekends ago: 👉 What would it look like to do this the easy way? What approach could I take that I'd ignored before because it wasn't good enough or had some major flaw or even was illegal... What would it look like to take that route? How could I "cheat" on this to get it done faster and easier? Looking at it this way helped me get away from black-or-white thinking, that it had to be done a certain way... and see it from a different perspective. For this particular challenge, taking the easy way would allow me to ship the deliverable much faster. It might take the quality from an A+ to an A, but nobody would know I originally had the A+ in mind anyway. Nobody would notice. And published is better than perfect. Which made me realize something: I'd taken the hard route by default, even though it wasn't really necessary. That made today's decision easy. I'm taking the easy way. And I'm thinking through how I can apply this to other projects I'm working on. What would it look like to hit the easy button for our data platform? What about for sponsorships? Or my weekend with the kids? What easy button can you push this week?
