Director of Fundraising

Start date: TBC
Salary: £58,000 to £62,000 per annum, inclusive of £3,990 London Weighting
Working hours: Full time, 35 hours per week. Women in Prison is open to this being a 4 day a week role.

This role is a key leadership role responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support the sustainability of Women in Prison.

Key Responsibilities Areas

  1. To develop and implement a voluntary (trusts and foundation; HNWI, corporate, individuals) fundraising strategy
  2. To manage relationships with key donors and stakeholders
  3. Budgeting, reporting and compliance
  4. Develop and lead the fundraising team
  5. To be a key member of the senior leadership of Women in Prison modelling feminist collective leadership

Fundraising Consultancy

Timeline: April - September 2024

Consultancy Purpose: Women in Prison is looking for an experienced trusts/foundations fundraiser who is proactive and can work with our team to help to build bids that meet our purpose, support our ambitions and meet donor requirements.

This work will take place over 5-6 months of 2024. The consultant/consultants will:

• Support relationship building with donors on the prospects list with the Chief Executive and Directors of Women in Prison.
• Advise on approaches to donors and make approaches as appropriate.
• Design bid development and write bids in collaboration with WIP teams.
• Work closely with the Director of Finance and Resources on bid budget development.
• With the support of different teams and monitoring and evaluation colleagues, write donor reports as they are required.

The donors we are likely to be writing bids for include Barrow Cadbury; the National Lottery, Oak Foundation among others. This work will take place between April and September.

Strategy Development Consultancy

Timeline: April- September 2024

Background: Women in Prison developed its current Vision, Purpose and Values in 2023 (Women in Prison — Our Vision, Purpose & Values). We do not currently work to a strategy, so this will be a new process for staff, along with a new way of working to co-design a strategy that supports our commitments and progress to work towards achieving our vision.

The leadership of Women in Prison is looking for a consultant to support this process.

From March 2024, we will enter the strategy development process for a 2025-2030 strategy. We hope to have a draft strategy for review by our Board by the end of October 2024.

Consultancy requirements: The leadership of Women in Prison is looking for an experienced facilitator who combines a strategic mindset and project management skills and who can work closely with our strategy working group – a group of internal staff, women with lived experience of the criminal justice system, and Women in Prison board members.

The consultant will:

• Project manage the strategy development process with the strategy working group to ensure we are on track and taking advantage of opportunities to input into the strategy.
• Facilitate key strategy discussions with staff and women with lived experience and other key workshops as agreed. The number of facilitated sessions needed can be agreed in discussion with the consultant.
• Facilitate an all staff away day.
• Digest and write up findings from these sessions.
• Provide essential distance, objectivity and challenge.
• Write content and drafts of the strategy for consultation.

  4. To lead on employee payroll, benefits and welfare
  5. To be a member of the extended leadership of Women in Prison, modelling feminist leadership, anti-oppression and empowering, values-led, collective leadership for the organisation

  • To have oversight of all contract requirements, ensuring compliance with reporting and other contractual obligations, supporting colleagues to understand their role in contract / programme delivery.
  • To work with Programmes Heads to plan and manage programme activity and budgets; aligning aims and objectives with delivery.
  • To support the Programmes Heads to actively engage with funders, stakeholders, delivery partners and the internal team(s), to create a collaborative approach to ensuring effective programme delivery.
  • To support the development of Women in Prison’s organisational contract and project management systems.
