Electricity, gas prices to drop in Lithuania from April

BNS 2024.02.28 11:45

Lithuania’s National Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) on Wednesday approved lower public electricity and natural gas prices for Ignitis consumers. They will come into force from April.

The new public electricity price tariff will be by 2–3.2 percent, or 0.44–0.47 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), lower for about 441,000 people who have not chosen an independent supplier.

According to VERT, the decision to reduce the tariffs was made following the adjustment of the tariffs for services provided by the power distribution company Energijos Skirstymo Operatorius (ESO) in January, which is one of the components of the public price.

Meanwhile, the gas price for households is set to go down by 24 cents per cubic meter, or 19–30 percent, from April.

The VERT says the reduction in gas tariffs is due to lower than previously forecast natural gas purchase prices for the first half of 2024.

Public electricity and gas tariffs for consumers are usually set twice a year, from January and July.
