𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 🚀 To mark 𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 of Start it Accelerate | @KBC 🍾🎊🎉, Belgium’s biggest startup accelerator, what better way than to share one of our most valuable lessons from the program: 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆. Flashback to 6 months into the program — we confidently pitched our startup cohort on a flashy new business model targeting a completely different market. Based on a few interviews, mostly bold assumptions, and why not, one example from the aerospace industry 💸💸💸 Hearing all the redflags, our business coach Sabine Claeys hit pause on our pitch mid-sentence and sent us straight to the Customer Discovery bootcamp. The message was clear: 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲. Customer Discovery is a crucial process of connecting with your potential target customers early on to identify their problems and needs and validating (or trashing) your assumptions. Iterate based on their feedback, rinse and repeat. 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴… I've seen both start-ups and established companies launching stuff that nobody asked for. Solely based on their own ideas, not customers’ desires. How about a € 60k investment in a patient app, with zero features patients were actually interested in due to internal compliance issues 🪦☠️ For anyone considering a leap into something new—or even corporate friends with extra budget for innovative projects — 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁. Because the saddest thing is when a start-up disappears, and no one even notices. Steve Blank, Lode Uytterschaut, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the importance of Customer Discovery vs. the “if we build it, they will come” mindset. P.S. 🌟 Belgium’s New E-commerce Law: A Catalyst for Change? 🌟 From 21st September 2024, Belgian online retailers will need to provide two delivery options, one of which must be environmentally friendly. With 60% of consumers prioritising greener options and 25% actively avoiding companies that don’t offer them, this law could have wider implications beyond Belgium. 🌍 This shift in policy might prompt similar legislation in other markets, as consumers continue to demand more sustainable choices. Those who act quickly will not only meet legal requirements but may well gain an edge in an increasingly eco-conscious world. 📦🚲 I know I shop with more eco-conscious companies!

✨ Another project completed for Noortje van Heijst & Merijn ten Thije from DOEN Participaties B.V.! ✨ This time, we explored the fascinating yet challenging world of impact-driven cosmetic brands 💚, uncovering key industry problems and identifying which brands are disrupting the industry in an innovative way combined with a relevant brand positioning.   In this category it’s often more about personal interests than societal importance, but it’s time for a shift, because the challenges in the industry are huge. To name a few: ❓ Lack of transparency: where do ingredients come from and how are they sourced (with an ingredient label most of us cannot read) 🧴 120 billion pieces of plastic are generated annually by the cosmetics industry ❌ Many products still contain microplastics, harming our environment (need help with checking your cosmetics - check out the BeattheMicrobead app) Sprinkles Innovation - Loes Altena

🤯Mindblowing stat: 3/4 of all Belgian companies have no strategy regarding sustainability. 🤯🤯 Considering the fact that all companies are obliged to do their reporting in 2026, I'm sure this is a challenge to take care of this on time. The article indicates that companies also fear that there's no ROI on these type of investments, while evidence shows that sustainability can drive financial outperformance.
