I’ve gotten to know the author Alina Siegfried over nearly a decade, I’ve read many of her compelling articles. I expected her to write a rather good book.
A Future Untold is more than a rather good book. It’s an exceptional book and moreover it gives us an exceptional set of tools for communicating Earth positive outcomes in the form of Narrative Foresight, as we navigate the inevitable crucible of the climate crisis and crossing so many planetary boundaries.
A Future Untold is an engaging and highly personal story. Alina deliciously entangles us in her world, and what a wonderful world it is - ranging from most everyone's thirst to live into Aotearoa and the Maori worldview, to the plains of Saskatchewan, Canada and more.
We join her as she discovers her joy and power in crafting slam poetry performances that not only enchant, but also alter us, as authentic story telling can't help but do. We join her as a mother as she revels in telling and making up bedtime stories. We join her as a leading light of the regenerative movement in New Zealand and the word. We join her on the journey of coming to fully understand the constructs that underpin the power of story.
There is an ancient saying: "When the ears of the student are ready to hear, then cometh the lips to fill them with Wisdom". The young and the students of the world are long since ready to craft new narratives for the future of people and planet. Alina imbues us with the storytelling wisdom she innately understands. For me personally, as someone who crafts Earth positive futures, I've loved learning in more depth about Narrative Foresight - intentional crafting of desired futures.
Narrative foresight is the lever of change that each of us who imagines positive futures will delight in learning to wield. Our delightful narratives, composed of stories of achievable reversals of ecological destruction, will indeed change the world.
