FOR AI ENTHUSIASTS WHO WANT TO MOVE FASTER:

Stuck on finding your best AI Idea?

Then you might be focused on the wrong part of the AI Idea Matrix:

An infographic titled "The AI Idea Matrix," featuring four interlocking puzzle pieces representing aspects of AI innovation: subject matter expertise, AI model, platform/interface, and traditional software/tools.

If you’re like any of our students, then, you might be thinking a couple things:

🛠️ Traditional Software or Tools:

💭 “Hmm…this would be an added benefit, if it’s even used at all. It matters, but it’s not the priority. Probably not the first thing to focus on, but it feels easier to focus on because I’m more familiar with it”

💻 Platform and User Interface:

💭 “These are important…but not the most important because “function” usually matters more than the form of a thing. Except…sometimes a better design does make some products win – I mean, that’s one of Apple’s advantages, right?”

🤖 Your Artificial Intelligence Model:

💭 “Obviously important…but there are so many options out that I know and don’t know about. Where do I even begin? Nothing I build will stand out if I just rely on ChatGPT…there’s gotta be more to it”

🎓 Unique Subject Matter Expertise:

💭 “I know what’s in my head matters, but does it matter more than the AI part? Hard to say. Everything kinda works together doesn’t it?”

Or…before seeing that chart, you might have already had some of this going through your head:

💭 “How do I come up with a good idea?”

💭 “Will my idea be outdated by the time I build it?”

💭 “How can I make sure ideas I come up with will actually be worth my time?”

💭 “Sometimes I get excited, but then I feel lost in where to start and end up doing nothing…”

If you’ve thought anything remotely similar to this, then you’re not alone.

It’s a problem I’ve seen literally hundreds of our students inside the AI Incubator face and I call it:

The AI Innovator Dilemma:

You will go insane trying to
solve everything all at once

The image is an outlined icon of a person's head in profile with a brain symbol inside, representing thought, intelligence, or mental processes.

HARD MODE: Every part of the AI Idea Matrix matters, and ALL of the questions you have also matter. However, trying to solve them all at once is like turning up the difficulty level of a video game from a “normal” difficulty level to hard impossible.

EASY MODE: To simplify your life, remember that this is a problem, and like every problem you’ve ever come across before, it gets easier when you do two things:

I – Focus on one step at a time.

II – Seeing the “mini-steps” inside one step makes it even easier.

I – Focus on step one (for now):

Your Unique Expertise

This image shows a diagram titled "The AI Idea Matrix," depicting a puzzle with four pieces representing aspects of AI innovation, like expertise and software tools.

Your unique expertise is the part that’s MOST responsible for making your AI idea unique.

Think about it.

Imagine opening two ChatGPT windows right now and then you gave them two different prompts:

The image shows two side-by-side prompts for writing an email, each prompt within a colored box with white text, against a plain background.

Sure, this is an obvious oversimplification but the fact remains that the output from Prompt 2 would be far better than the output from Prompt 1. Not perfect, but still better.

The Point: Your Unique Context Expertise Matters.

Noteworthy: This is true whether you’re using AI to write an email or you’re creating a more sophisticated AI process or product.

Finer Details: The thing we need to understand is how to filter through your years or decades of professional and life experience to make sure you’re finding the context that would make your AI idea so specific, that

(1) it’s not worth it for the big AI players to copy your stuff and

(2) it’s still widely applicable enough to solve a valuable problem for you (and others if you want to commercialize your idea).

Takeaway: You need to “slice” and “structure” the right parts of your expertise. That’s how you get the “raw material” for your AI ideas.

II – “Mini-steps” to make this easier:

The 3-step AI Idea Cycle
for structuring your expertise and more…

The image displays a circular diagram titled "AI IDEA CYCLE" with three phases: Prioritize, Plan, and Prototype, suggesting a process for developing AI-driven projects.

Rob Howard

Hey, Rob here. I’m the founder of Innovating with AI® and I’ve spent the last 20 years developing software that powers sites for Facebook and Intel.

And every time, I’ve had to answer these kinds of questions:

  • How do I come up with new ideas to solve problems my clients have?
  • How do I prioritize features that are “need to have” versus “nice to have”?
  • How do I launch on time for client deadlines without going over budget?

As I reflected on how I did this again and again for clients, I began to see the “meta-pattern” of problem-solving.

That allowed me to find other talented developers who thought the same way I did. Together, we tackled larger and larger projects over the years – which is part of how I grew HDC, my software development firm.

But, things didn’t stop there.

I started to see how we could use the process internally to launch our own software products. Then, I got (1) more granular and (2) more meta.

On the granular level, I saw how we could use this approach for not just coming up with products, but processes – which are often the precursor to products.

Then, I saw how we could use it to even come up with entire businesses – and that led me to launching startups, selling startups, and even acquiring startups.

It taught me that, if I got really good at finding, selecting, and launching ideas, that it’d make it WAY easier to create processes, products, and even businesses.

The best part?

No more waiting on “inspiration”, getting stuck with “blank page syndrome”, or wishing for “one hit wonder” ideas.

I found a way to engineer a pipeline of reliable and viable ideas.

Fast forward to now:

After I launched Innovating with AI® and our AI Incubator – I secretly snuck elements of this process into the core program.

The end result?

It helped hundreds of students turn their ideas into AI processes and products.

Coaching Screenshot

That was how the AI Idea Cycle™ was born.

A repeatable process for finding new ideas, selecting the best one, and outlining your plan to make it a reality.

Personally, I found that fulfilling because the entire mission of Innovating with AI is to help entrepreneurs and executives harness the power of AI.

Then, to take it even one step further, I decided to formalize this “secret” AI Idea Cycle™ approach as a process that was accessible to everyone…before they even joined our AI Incubator program.

That way, if they decided to join, they’d be able to hit the ground running.

And, even if they didn’t join, and finding the right idea was all they needed to get their genius out into the world, they’d have a repeatable way to do that too.

That reliable and repeatable method is what I’m proud to share with you today.

Come up with ideas faster
by nerding out with others

I asked 20,000+ Innovating with AI readers if they’d found their AI tribe – and I was overwhelmed by the response.

Here are just a few of their answers:

So far my tribe is just me – and my husband is tired of me talking endlessly about my projects.”

“I haven’t found my AI tribe. I know a couple enthusiasts, but I haven’t met anyone that’s into it as much as I am.

“I’m a physician, startup cofounder, ex-Deloitte senior manager, and currently freelance consultant. At the moment, I’m the only one in my circle who is into AI.

If any of this feels familiar, then you are not alone.

Even with all the huge tech breakthroughs we’ve seen in the last year, human connection remains the most important factor in your business and career success.

That’s why the most successful innovators focus on finding or building what Seth Godin calls a “Tribe” – a group of like-minded people who support you and challenge you to improve.

Your loved ones and old friends won’t be your tribe for your journey into the AI future. Even your colleagues at work may not be ready to join your new adventure.

But without a real, human connection, you’ll spend all day stuck in your own head – rather than learning, building and growing.

That’s why, as part of the AI Idea Pipeline, I’ve cleared it with my team to provide you lifetime access to our AI community.

I’m talking about a “growth mindset” crew of folks who aren’t just AI enthusiasts, but AI innovators on the rise. In just the few short months that our “tiny but mighty” community has existed, I’ve seen folks reach out to form strategic business partnerships, and even reach out to offer funding for projects.

Now, I can’t promise that any of this will happen for you, but I share it to let you know that the future is as bright as you wish to make it and that you are not alone.

Since our community is also spread out across the world, chances are there’s always someone up when you are.

You’ll always have someone to talk to about ideas you’re finding, building, and growing in the greater world of AI.

Every Frequently Asked Question That Pops Into The Head of a Discerning Professional

How is this different from using a LLM like ChatGPT to come up with ideas?

This is the polar opposite of “1,001 ChatGPT Business Ideas.” Instead, we teach you how to create AI ideas that are both incredibly valuable to the people around you and a perfect match for everything you’ve already built in your pre-AI career.

Here, we use a highly structured process to find “diamonds in the rough” from your professional and personal life experience. Then, we apply a product development methodology to refine, select, and scope your plan to build the best ones.

Just as it’s important to know what to build, it’s also important to know what NOT to build. For decades, I’ve used similar techniques to scope my software development for clients like Harvard and The World Bank.

Now, inside the AI Idea Pipeline, these techniques will be yours for life.

I already have an AI idea I’m working on, do I need this?

Excellent. You’re ahead of the game and the AI Idea Pipeline will have 2 distinct benefits: de-risking and idea strengthening.

You’ll de-risk your existing ideas by (1) adding specific components of detail to your existing idea (2) scoping a 1-page plan to build it and (3) scoring the value of your idea alongside other ideas that we’ll guide you through detailing as well.

If your initial idea gets the top score, then you’ll be able to power through the distraction of any shiny objects knowing that you’re building the best idea. This should increase your development throughput, allowing you to finish faster because you lose no time to exploring distracting “thought threads” that pop up.

Through the same process outlined above, you’ll also naturally strengthen your idea. So, even if you end up picking the same idea, the explicit goal is to increase the magnitude of value your initial idea would provide, while decreasing the cost to build it (because your most expensive resource is time).

How is this different from the AI Idea Matrix I studied inside the AI Incubator program?

The AI Idea Matrix shows the 4 “components” of your AI process or product:

  1. Your Unique Subject Matter Expertise
  2. Your Artificial Intelligence Model
  3. Your Platform and User Interface
  4. Your Traditional Software or Tools

The AI Idea Pipeline is a masterclass on the first and most important part of the AI Idea Matrix – your subject matter expertise. Then, it makes it exceptional through a 3-part process:

  1. Pipeline: Transform subject matter expertise and life experience into a pipeline of ideas.
  2. Prioritize: Use the S.H.I.P. idea prioritization rubric to select “antifragile” ideas worth building.
  3. Plan: Create a 1-page “build plan” to turn ideas into a process or product. This includes initial ideation on your AI model, platform, user interface, and traditional software/tools you’ll need. It also guides you through scoping the time needed to build the idea.

In short, the AI Idea Pipeline is the “prequel” to the AI Incubator (where you turn your idea into a process or product)..

What if I have advanced coding skills – is this still right for me?

I’ve been a web developer for more than 20 years – and I’ve used earlier versions of the AI Idea Pipeline process for all my ideation over the past decade. So even if you have high-end coding skills, you’ll benefit from every single section in the AI Idea Pipeline – from creating a pipeline of ideas to prioritizing and drafting a plan to build your idea.

You already have some of the skills needed to build it – this focuses on making sure you’re building the right thing.

Will this work for me if I’m not a coder?

Yes – even if you’re not a coder, each of our Innovating with AI programs will help you rapidly become an AI expert and reposition your career for the AI-driven future.

If you’re a digital marketer, designer, startup employee, or you do anything with tech at work, the course will ensure you’re at the cutting edge of your field.

Will this cover AI technologies I need to build my idea?

No. To avoid distraction, we cover that inside our AI Incubator program. However, if you have existing technologies you’re thinking of using, this will guide you through adding those technologies to your 1-page build plan.

Then, should you join the AI Incubator, you’ll follow a structured process to add the 3 additional components needed to build your idea as a process or product (in as little as 30 days).

How long do I have access to the curriculum?

You have lifetime access to all course curriculum material, so you can take it at your own pace and check back anytime.

How much time should I commit to the course?

The entire set of videos will be less than 3 hours. This is intentional since it allows you to ideate and plan in a day, whether you’re working by yourself, or with your family, or a small team. You have lifetime access to revisit all the videos and other curriculum materials whenever you need to.

What if I’m not happy with the program?

We’re always available for questions and clarifications via e-mail and in the course-area comments. We offer a 3-day cancel-for-any-reason grace period and a 14-day money-back guarantee on your purchase.

Will this help me get a job?

The strategies and skills you’ll learn from the AI Idea Pipeline will dramatically increase your ability to turn your professional expertise and personal life experience into the ideas needed to develop AI processes and products. However, we don’t consider the AI Idea Pipeline to be a formal job-training program. So if your most urgent priority is finding employment, it is best not to consider the AI Idea Pipeline a replacement for other job trainings or certifications, but rather a supplement that can help you learn big-picture business skills – particularly when it comes to product and process development.

Do I keep ownership of all my ideas and intellectual property?

Yes – you own everything you create. Unlike other programs (or the TV show Shark Tank), we do not ask you to give up any ownership, control or interest in anything that you’re creating. Our job is to be your launchpad, not to stifle you or take a cut of your hard work.

Will the program work for me if I’m outside the United States?

Yes, we have star students from around the world – from Chicago to Madrid Chiang Mai. Everything in the program will work for you regardless of where you’re physically located. And because our students are all around the world, there’s always someone active in our 24/7 Slack community.

It’s easier to find one exceptional AI idea you’re excited about when you have a repeatable process to create 10+ unique ideas

One exceptional AI idea can be the difference between a successful AI process/product/business and one that gets buried in your idea graveyard.

Think about it.

The device you’re using reading this on right now, was, at one point, just an idea.

It wasn’t an idea that stayed inside the creator’s head though. They got it down on paper. Then, de-risked it and made a plan to bring it to life.

While good ideas are a “dime a dozen”, great ideas are the ones that are found, and then iterated over time to become exceptional ideas.

If you want the world to find your idea valuable, first, invest the time, energy, and effort into finding and refining the best that’s inside of you.

Do I get to feature your idea on a page like this next?

This image shows a black-and-white, possibly hand-drawn or inked, simple oval shape with some scribbles inside, resembling an abstract signature or mark.
