Wish to Adapt
03:45
|

am I repeating, repeating myself everyday
or have I been changing in some imperceptible way
is effort lost, I feel like a slave
to patterns lived so long they’re engraved
tired of the incremental flow
I need a drink and a plan of attack
to bend myself in another way
to work this plastic mind like fresh clay
a new mold, new electrical map
new emotional ground, I wish to adapt
I wish to adapt
in every encounter I know what I’ll do, what I’ll say
the way that I process is unable to go astray, though I try
I’m living locked, pressed at the cage
of my own rhythms, my DNA
how am I supposed to fill this need to grow
I gotta find me a magic cap
to bend myself in another way
to work this plastic mind like fresh clay
a new mold, new electrical map
new emotional ground, I wish to adapt
and bend myself in another way
to work this plastic mind like fresh clay
a new mold, new electrical map
new emotional ground, I wish to adapt
I wish to adapt, I wish to adapt
am I repeating, repeating myself everyday
or have I been changing in some imperceptible way, I can’t tell
is effort lost, I feel like a slave
to patterns lived so long they’re engraved
tired of the incremental flow, tired of the incremental flow
tired of the incremental flow, tired of the incremental flow
to bend myself in another way
to work this plastic mind like fresh clay
a new mold, new electrical map
new emotional ground, someone gimme a slap
to bend myself in another way
to work this plastic mind like fresh clay
a new mold, new electrical map
new emotional ground, I wish to adapt
I wish to adapt, I wish to adapt
I wish to adapt, I wish to adapt
I wish, I wish to adapt
I wish, I wish to adapt
I wish

March through the Forest

|

we march through the forest today
the shadow on the mountain calls
see the sunrise over the bridge
and spiral the road into the trees
we march through the forest with lunch on our backs
blade at my hip for if a cougar attacks
breath hanging out, we sweat in the chill
down below the city sleeping in is oh so still
as if it’s taken a pill
we march through the forest today
the shadow on the mountain calls
we tangle with some menacing roots
and go on our way
tromping through the meadow popping swollen icy patches
frozen little diamonds bedded in the ground
searching for a marker, did we miss it, did we pass it
heading to the summit where the ravens spin the world around
the world around
we march through the forest today
the shadow on the mountain calls
bewitched by the wink of a pond
we circle around, circle away
we march through the forest, all sprinkled in white
like the bones of a cloud ground up in the night
mist hovers in, devours the trees
chewing on our sandwiches we stand there patiently
cause now there’s nothing to see, no now there’s nothing to see
we march through the forest today
the shadow on the mountain calls
rising to the fall of our boots
when there’s no more to say
tromping through the meadow popping swollen icy patches
frozen little diamonds bedded in the ground
searching for a marker, did we miss it, did we pass it
heading to the summit where the ravens spin the world around
we march through the forest today, we march through the forest
we march through the forest today, we march march march march
we march through the forest today
the shadow on the mountain calls
we slip and slide onto the ridge
wind is coming our way
temperature is falling, snow is building on our jackets
trees are doing battle over frozen ground
kicking through the powder on a monolith of granite
standing on the summit where the ravens spin the world
standing on the summit where the ravens spin the world
standing on the summit where the ravens spin the world
standing on the summit where the ravens spin the world around
the world around, the world around
the world around, the world around
spin the world around
