Leave time in your schedule for “good fortune.” Nothing serendipitous can occur if you are scheduled wall to wall. By making sure you have time allotted every day for anything to happen, you not only have room for error, you have time for chance encounters. #scheduling #careers #productivity #bestadvice #dorieclark

I can't agree more. There are 2 things we need to schedule every day: me-time, for relaxation & refreshing the mind & buffer time, for anything that might overspill or any eventualities. And this me-time should not be the exercise time. You need to have some additional time on top of exercise, where you do what you really enjoy, be it reading a good book, sitting outside in nature or on a balcony with a good cup of tea / coffee and just be or similar activities. Another time slot we need to schedule every week, and I learned that from Dorie Clark, is time to think and strategize. We need to have time to think, otherwise we will remain stuck.

One day, I asked a very successful person to lunch. He said "let me check my schedule." He showed me his agenda; it was empty for days. He concluded "Yes my schedule is totally empty and I work very hard to keep it that way." Less is more.

Couldn’t agree more on this one Dorie! I’ve been having fun conversations with Alexander Schacht about how 85% capacity should be the limits you plan for.

But wall to wall scheduling makes me feel needed. My time poverty makes me a big shot, worthy of admiration. (Only half-sarcasm here)

Absolutely leave space for "good fortune!" Sometimes it even shows up when our schedule goes sideways, and if we're open to it - there it is serendipity! Like the chance meeting on an Avis bus on the way to Dulles where we were both flying United!  Couldn't agree more Dorie Clark

Time for innovation and exploration should be built into job descriptions so that employees have the time to work on their ideas.
