OK, it's time to get weird. How weird? How about a progressive/experimental death metal band called Frogg? Not weird enough? The track is called "Interspecific Hybrid Species". OK, OK, the lyric video is a big frog (duh) holding up some sort of...planet? Orb? Thing? Of course, the weirdness of the aesthetic is secondary to the music, which is, for lack of a better term because I'm tired, fucking bonkers. It reminds me a bit of Stone Healer at times but then First Fragment but Devin Townsend showed up and is handing out drinks and snacks? Alright, I don't know, all hail the frog god, scroll down below and listen to this stuff for yourself.
Whew lad, there is a lot going on here. My favorite thing about this is the unrelenting combo between melody and intricacy, neither part willing to give way to the other. Where others making music this technical tend to sound mechanical, Frogg are wild, emotive, and intensely melodical, creating an extremely unique palette. This also means that you don't have to listen to this track only to go "holy shit, these guys play fast", but can also enjoy it on an emotional and more musical level. But then of course you can also listen to it and go "holy shit, these guys play fast" because they do and it's very impressive.
This slab of oddity comes to us off of Eclipse, their latest album which dropped on March 7th. Make sure you head on over to their Bandcamp to snag it; it rules.
