CABRAKAÄN (kab-ra-kahn): Mexican-Canadian symphonic folk metallers Cabrakaän are breaking barriers and forging new genre-bending paths in the international metal scene. Founded in 2011, drummer Marko Cipäktli and classically trained soprano vocalist Pat Cuikani sought to fuse the pre-hispanic and rich folkloric elements of Mexican folk music with heavy metal. Drawing on instruments, melodies, mythologies, and oral histories of their ancestral Mexica (pronounced “mesh-eek-ah“) people, the band tells powerful, evocative stories that transcend language and culture. LYRICS (SPANISH/NÁHUATL)
Niwinti, nichoka, niknotlamati, nik mati, nikihtoa,
nik ilnamiki: Ma ka aik nimiki In kan ahmikoa
Al despertar
En otro mundo estás
Debes cruzar
Tu xolo te guiará
Quiero ver en el camino
Pluma azul, jade y destino
¿Eres tú? ¿Mictecacihuatl?
¿Lograré pasar las pruebas del Mictlán?
In kan ahmikoa,
in kan on tepetiwa, in ma onkan niaw...
Ma ka aik nimiki, ma Mictlán
Cerros pasar
Vientos te han de llevar
Siempre hacia el sur
Las flechas lloverán
Y al final, alma serena
Líbrame de todas las penas.
¿Eres tú? ¿Mictlantecutli?
He pasado al fin, las pruebas del Mictlán

LYRICS (ENGLISH)
Nahuatl:
Niwinti, nichoka, niknotlamati,
nik mati, nikihtoa, nik ilnamiki:
Ma ka aik nimiki In kan ahmikoa
(I am intoxicated, I cry, I mourn, I think, I say,
within myself I find it: if it never disappeared).
Open your eyes
In another land afar
You must travers
Your guide awaits you there.
I’ll join you there
On the path you tread
Azul plumes, jade, destiny, light
Is that you, Mictecacihuatl?
I shall boldly take, this passage to Mictlan
Nahuatl:
In kan ahmikoa,
In kan on tepetiwa, in ma onkan niaw...
Ma ka aik nimiki, ma Mictlán
(There, where there is no death, there, where she is conquered, may I go there...
If I never died, I hope, Mictlán...)
Mountains we’ll scale
The winds will take us there
Always heading south
With arrows raining down
In the end, serene spirit
Set me free
From all this torment
Is that you, Mictlantecutli?
At last I have made, my passage to Mictlán…...more
