Empty Store

So I went into my A.D. today to see if there was anything new or interesting and was greeted by absolutely bare showcases. Not a single piece of inventory existed.

All they could offer was the latest catalogue and the 2021 magazine.

He said that the longest time they had a piece of inventory in stock was 20 minutes before someone bought it.

The other A.D. in town is also empty and out of stock.

Winston

There was one staff member in the boutique playing solitaire on his computer. He’s the one who gave me the books.

I used to be a fan of the brand, but with this being the reality....seriously, who cares about Rolex anymore? I think of them like a automobile brand that folded.

Im sure there is plenty of business on the back end. Most pieces that come in are already spoken for. Its no different than walking into a car dealership right now. No inventory but when i went to sign my papers for my truck, there were 4 other people in there at the same time doing the same thing but without a single new vehicle on the lot. They sold their inventory before it is even dropped off as soon as the find out what they are being allocated its sold off on the back end.
I put a deposit on my truck 2 months before its arrival. The only time it rolled on to the lot was when it was already detailed and waiting for me to hop in and leave.

I wonder if the current craze of hammer binge shopping plays a part?

Exactly, my AD told me that they had to beef up their security when they received the exhibition models.

When I spoke to the guy at the boutique, he seemed to indicate that they had not received any inventory for quite some time. They’re hoping that after Watches and Wonders takes place, they’ll see a few new models, but until then, they will only receive a portion of the allocations destined for their buying group, distributed between their various locations. It’s very bleak.

X2, this took all the fun / enjoyment out of it for me as well. Happy with what I own buy can't come to terms with playing the games for a hobby or something I truly don't need more of.

That could not be true. Geneva is back to regular production numbers according to export data used in Morgan Stanley SWISS Watch report.

I don’t claim he is lying - he can only repeat what he is told.

I agree with others that the incoming inventory is likely earmarked for queued-up buyers.

In such a high demand market, the AD who doesn’t order an exhibition kit has surrendered to the reality of disappointing more clients than the bare cases. That, and what Kathleen said: “less risk of smash/grabs”.

Ironically, it drops an ADs staffing costs to 25% of normal.

This store has multiple locations and their head office may prioritize their inventory to other more lucrative venues, and leave this location dry.

What makes this any different than practically every AD in the world? Empty cases, sometimes a Lady DateJust or diamond model, any inventory they do have is in the back because they don't want to sell it to random customers but they probably have something in the back that is earmarked for someone else or they're holding to sweeten a deal, like if you buy something else a Rolex may mysteriously appear.

I’m in Canada and the sales market here is quite different than other parts of the world. If a merchant has something to sell, they’re going to do anything they can to sell their product. Hold-backs are a cheap ploy, left to manipulative shysters who think they can leverage an extra deal out of a customer. These types of unsavoury sales tactics are not seen in Canada. I’ve only ever experienced them in America.

When central banks stop the free currency at an incredibly massive scale. If the Petrodollar falls demand will be even higher.

My long standing AD is in CAD and it does happen, sorry to burst the bubble. However, your AD may not, good luck.

Was in Maui this week and a couple of display models in Tourneau Wailea, but the good news is the staff don't have to do all that bothersome adding and removing the window displays every morning and every night.

Not disputing your statement, but the Rolex direct boutiques, like the one in Vancouver, operate in the same fashion in my experience. Have been there several times over the last 3 years. Same story. Nothing on the shelves, some kind of hold back for top customers. Of course, they aren't bundling with required jewelry sales, as many US AD's do.

Well, I stand corrected. My apologies to those who suffer at the hand of these unscrupulous and dreadful practices.
I guess Calgary must have a unique reputation that is not congruent with other areas of the country. Please forgive my presumptions.

The thing that makes me chuckle is they still pay for a security guard. Even when the most valuable thing is the toilet.
