"When funders are clear-eyed about their roles as resource stewards rather than agenda setters, they act in right relationship—that is, with attentiveness and responsiveness to the needs of others—with narrative practitioners." Appreciate this and other insights from Mandy Van Deven and Jody Myrum's new piece on how to fund #narrative ecosystems. Check it out below!

I really appreciate this piece in Gender and Development by Boikanyo Modungwa and her co-authors on the need for #feminist , #decolonized approaches to #learning and #evaluation in #philanthropy. It very much aligns with American Jewish World Service (AJWS)'s approach to: 1) funding grassroots-led, feminist research methodologies and 2) our advocacy calls to donors to follow grantees' lead on what success looks like and how it might be measured. Rigid, uniform metrics detached from local realities are meaningless and unnecessarily burdensome. Let's bring open and learning-oriented mindsets to our work in 2024 - I suggest starting by reading this paper! (Written in a wonderful conversational format.)
