If you read my profile, you know I struggle with defining my professional identity - because you can’t necessarily put me into a singular identity like for instance a VC investor or investment banker or business manager or management consultant. That’s because as I have recently found - I enjoy straddling the lines across all these identities and indeed find my flow often in their intersection. I was lucky to have stumbled upon this TED talk (while driving) that gives the phenomenon like myself a name - hybrid professionals. Sarabeth Berk, Ph.D. does a great job of not only coining the term but also enabling you to define your own sweet spots - for instance I know I operate best in the process of envisioning and execution - bringing the right teams together to execute- typically those times are most prevalent with starting up anything new. I believe for our future generations- hybridity will be the norm not the exceptional - might as well prepare for it. I’ve been this for my whole career. Seems that when women identify as hybrid, it works against us.

3yIsn't this notion of hybrid professional, just an expression of the need to differentiate? Finding sweet spots at the intersection of job roles and careers where you can create a more differentiated value? In an increasingly connected world where access to talent becomes easier and easier, I find this notion of hybrid professionals will become increasingly important. I think the key is link or intersect the right roles ;)
