But there's hope on the horizon! 🌟 In a historic move, the United Nations adopted resolution 5/14 to end #PlasticPollution, paving the way for a legally binding instrument. This landmark decision signifies a global commitment to a #CircularEconomy and sustainable practices. 🌐 As negotiations continue, it's inspiring to see many actors taking a leading role in the fight against plastic pollution. Urban Africa will be advocating for accelerated action at #COP28 🌍 "My hope for COP28 is that tangible progress is made on how cities can gain direct access to the #climatefinance they need. Only then can the transformative action that is urgently needed, happen." - Dr Meggan Spires Securing increased funding to support the development and implementation of locally driven projects in African cities, regions and towns is critical. It is imperative that funding is tailored to, and can be easily accessed by, subnational governments in Africa directly benefiting their citizens’ needs. This is crucial for building #climateresilience and ensuring access to clean and affordable energy for the most vulnerable. Finance is urgently needed to ensure Africa’s cities are resilient to global sustainability challenges and to develop them into green economic hubs of the future. Given Africa’s high urbanisation rate, it is crucial that finance is unlocked for the building of low carbon and climate resilient infrastructure, and the protection of Africa’s rich #biodiversity.
