#MontagesofMigration | Continuing our collaboration with The Migration Story, we present the third episode of our 'Montages of Montages' series. This episode features Hemant Kalindi, a migrant worker from Jharkhand who migrated to escape the caste hierarchy and social constriction of the Kalindi community, hoping to improve his life and empower his family and community. 🌱We started this series at Policy & Development Advisory Group (PDAG) to highlight stories of resilience among workers nationwide, who use migration to overcome hardships stemming from their social and economic standing. In this episode, Rahul Kumar from our research team shares Hemant's story, which he learned during a field survey for the Jharkhand Migration Survey (JMS). Celebrating National Panchayati Raj Day! 🎉 The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has localized Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) to meet the Agenda of achieving Sustainable Development goals by 2030, focusing on nine key themes. In order to evaluate the progress achieved by grassroots level institutions in realizing localized SDGs, the Ministry has unveiled a report on the Panchayat Development Index (PDI). The PDI is pivotal for assessing performance and gauging progress towards LSDGs in rural areas. This Index is based on 9 themes, 144 targets, 577 indicators and 688 data points. It considers the inputs, outputs, and outcomes of development initiatives within each theme, facilitating comparisons among Panchayats. 🌱 These themes address poverty, healthcare, child welfare, water management, environmental sustainability, infrastructure, social security, governance, and gender equality, collectively shaping sustainable rural development. They collectively represent the holistic approach needed for sustainable rural development. #DidYouKnow | During Policy & Development Advisory Group (PDAG)'s field visit in Uttar Pradesh,  it was revealed that the funds earmarked for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) were used up within a mere three months into the financial year. 📌 This alarming revelation underscores the acute scarcity of employment opportunities haunting villages. Adding to the distress, a recent parliamentary committee report disclosed that the Finance Ministry allocated a staggering 22% less funds for #MGNREGA in the current fiscal year compared to the Rs 1.1 lakh crore requested by the Rural Development Ministry. 👉 Such shortfall amplifies the challenges faced by rural communities, emphasizing the urgent need for robust support and adequate funding to sustain livelihoods and foster inclusive growth. #RuralPolicy #GrowthChallenges #InclusiveDevelopment #ResearchFindings #RuralDevelopment #EmploymentScarcity 

#WheresPublicinPublicPolicy | Tune into the captivating discussion from Policy & Development Advisory Group (PDAG)'s recent webinar, featuring the enlightening insights of Pawanjot Kaur and Aishwarya Mohanty in the series "Where's Public in Public Policy." In the session titled "Crafting Climate Narratives: Reporting & Storytelling on Climate Migration and Just Transition," they delved deep into their experiences, offering profound reflections on the role of media in shaping public perception of climate change and just transition. 💡 Pawanjot discussed the unique position of informal economies in coal mines, particularly in Jharkhand. She discussed how she immersed herself in conferences and community interactions to understand the complexities surrounding coal reliance, including its ties to employment, livelihoods, and economies. She highlighted the challenge of discussing the transition away from fossil fuels, lacking translations in native languages reliant on coal. 🌱 Aishwarya Mohanty discussed deforestation-induced sea erosion in Satbhaya and migration due to delayed monsoons in Puri. Through these experiences- she emphasized the link between cyclones, land damage, and migration in both areas. Additionally, she stressed the importance of reporting micro-level impacts alongside macro-level ones. Towards the end, she highlighted the crucial role of journalists in making climate storytelling relatable by focusing on its human impacts.
