Patagonia’s Communications and Public Policy team is comprised of three groups working together, each with a unique focus in the areas of Internal Communications, External Communications/Media and Politics, Policy and Philosophy.

The Director of Internal Communications will oversee a small team and report to the Head of Communications and Public Policy. We are seeking an experienced, senior-level manager with a strong internal communications background. They will support the development and execution of effective strategies and processes to deliver timely and engaging content to our employee community; this is pivotal in connecting them to our company mission: We’re in Business to Save Our Home Planet. The Director of Internal Communications will work in close coordination with colleagues across the company both at the Corporate Headquarters and throughout our Retail, Customer Service and Warehouse Teams. Key partners will include People & Culture, Events & Experiences, Legal, Executive Leadership, and the Justice, Equity and Antiracism team. The overarching objective is to engage, inspire and support Patagonia’s growing employee community in North America and around the world. The ideal candidate will have worked specifically in internal communications for a major corporate organization and will be an experienced manager, mentor, and collaborator. What You’ll Do

  • Ensure alignment of internal and external messaging and work across the communications organization to support the team with core messaging and counsel and review of implementation.
  • Lead communications strategy on all issues related to the company’s justice, equity and antiracism journey.
  • Bridge divides and celebrate differences across employee experiences, locations, tenures and levels
  • Partner with departments and business units to share news, information and other relevant activities with the broader employee community.
  • Help develop a plan and coordinate strategy for how the company celebrates and recognizes holidays and days / months of observance.
  • Develop new and improve existing tools (e.g., town halls, Patagonia’s intranet, newsletters) to support employee experience and awareness of key business initiatives and company purpose and values.
  • Support and be a real driver of internal events that engage and inspire Patagonia’s employee community
  • Develop systems, reporting and metrics that give insights into colleague sentiment, demonstrate effectiveness of communications activities, and inform future strategy
  • Build teams across the organization as needed and advocate for resources to execute on our purpose and values.
  • Mentor, inspire, develop, internal comms team and business unit partners focused on engaging and supporting Patagonia’s employee community.

Experience You Bring

  • 10+ years of professional experience focused on leading internal, employee focused communications that engage and support cultural values.
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior executives and cross functional teams within and between departments or business units.
  • Experience leading diverse teams and demonstrated commitment to workplace culture of inclusion.
  • Proven experience and successes supporting diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives
  • Experience developing and executing successful change management communication programs at the enterprise level for major corporate organizations.
  • Has a strong sense for storytelling, messaging, themes and techniques that resonate with key internal audiences/constituencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to think innovatively and creatively; negotiation skills; demonstrates accountability, motivates, and inspires colleagues working with.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize business strategies into communication solutions and ability to set strategy and maintain audience and channel focus.
  • Strong understanding of digital communications and their optimal use in supporting change and information dissemination.

Pay range: $166,376 - $277,292

Hiring range: $205,000 - $225,000

At Patagonia, pay ranges are assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to 3rd party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.
